5 gallons sounds like a disaster. He can't get friends :/

Well if it is planted he dontt need friends. If its densely planted that he never gets bored

Think I'll go fully planted and buy a mini power head to create abit of flow, adjustable just to give the puffer something to cruise about in, but not so it's constantly fighting it.

No, 150, they're about an inch and a half square.

draxis I like you, and you are a fellow puffer fish enthusiast, but you seem to give bad advice A LOT on this forum.   I think a ways back you said dwarf puffers also like brackish water, there has been multiple strange opinions on this thread.  Please, do not EVER put your DP's into brackish water, they will hate your guts and die an early death, and I do not wan't to see either of those things happen.  Dwarf puffers come from inland rivers in India, and never see a brackish estuary in their entire lives in the wild.  In fact, they are quite intolerant to salt.

They certainly can live quite happy without a tank mate, and 5g is perfect for 1 dwarf puffer.  These guys are not wild caught and have been bred many generations in aquariums, and therefor usually can handle quite an array of conditions as opposed to what is outlined in their natural profile.   With lots of plants and yummy snails in a 5 gallon tank, 1 dwarf puffer could live a pretty fulfilling life, as lives go for dwarf puffer fish.   I personally have a mated pair in a 5 gallon tank, but that would honestly be the only way you could keep 2 in that small of a size tank, and something more like 10 gallons would be needed to house 1 male with 2 females.   In this scenario though with Ninj's 5gallon planted freshwater tank, this will suit her 1 dwarf puffer fish quite well, and as talked about earlier in the thread, a couple nice big algae eating shrimp may be able to live in there too, granted her puffer isn't an elite killer.

Hmm..my fiance is being difficult

He does not want just one DP cause they're so small.
Would it be possible to have multiple females and no male? I doubt it but thought I'd ask.
Also going to make another thread asking about a different fish that he now seems interested in, and for any other small fish that may work.

Keep info coming on here if there is anything else to add that hasn't already been said. Even if I don't get him a puffer I know I will get one eventually. :)

I wouldn't do multiple DPs in a 5. I had 2 females in my 10 with no issues-they were actually best buddies. You can have 3 sometimes 4 in a 10 depending on their attitudes, but I'm not sure I'd chance multiples in a 5. However, if you end up with 2 docile females like I did, they could probably co-exist in a 5 just fine! Doesn't give them much space to get away from each other if they have an issue for whatever reason, however.

They may be small, but their attitudes make up for it! They come right up like a dog when you come up to the tank and will follow you! <3

Is the 5 gallon tank already purchased, or is their room for upgrade?

We won't do multiple puffers then, no worries.
It's already purchased, he didn't want a 10g because it's too big. -_-
I probably will try to get a 10 though in the future for some, or get another 5 just for one. It really doesn't bother me at all if it's small, that's exactly what I've been telling him is they have so much personality they make up for it.

I seriously wish this tank was big enough for a red eye puffer :p
I never did put the dimensions on here, oopsie.
16 x 8 x 10 inches (L x W x H)

lol i want a red eyed puffer so bad too!!!
