Did you tell him your tank size, might just be a marketing ploy.
Never heard of than ever. It's insinuating that it's a neon/texas cross

To my knowledge there is no such fish as a dwarf neon texas cichlid. You have Texas cichlids or dwarf rams (some of which are being marketed as neon, - new colour strain I believe).

I don't think that there is such thing as a dwarf ram, because rams get to only 3-3 1/2 inches any way. I have never heard of that name for a texas cichlid. It might just be a name to get you to buy it. I know that eletrci blue rams are real, but what in the hell is a dwarf ram, as a regular ram is a dwarf any way. My knowledge knows that texas cichlids need a species only tank and get quite big 8-12 inches. They are ery agressive, also the only cichlid that is found in the united states.

agreed that looks like young texas

sorry mate never heard of a dwarf texas and has no one else,,,,like fish shops selling oscars as dwarf oscars i have seen it done

Ok the LFS were I got them say this fish will get about 5 inches and it is a hybrid. Here are a few pictures of mine he is about 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 inches notice the tail area is very short. I have seen 2 inch normal texas cichlids and they look difrent in shape. Tell me what you think.

I'm no expert on texas cichlids but I think that one looks like a slight balloon strain possibly, judging by the squat body shape - I could believe that is a hybrid fish, wills

Seems like a balloon strain as said, I know there are balloon rams, but that's as much as I know.
Still, considering balloon rams get to a similar size of a normal ram, I would have thought it would grow more than 3 inches.

Hi Jason , I don't know them by a different name , but they are coming out of Asia & I hear they get around 3.5" . I have 3 of them & I don't know if they will breed . I don't know if this is done with hormones or what . Strange , they come from Mexico & this is done in Asia . I will give it a try . Don't let people tell you they don't exist ! They do . By the way mine were $16 each . Cheers , Robert

Its definitely got some texas in it. Either a balloon variety (spinal deformity) or a cross. I've seen parrot fish x texas and flowerhorn x texas that look a bit like your fish, however yours is the 'most' texas I have seen. I would say the photo's show a 'balloon' or 'short bodied' texas cichlid.

I don't want to get into moral issues and fish, but intentionally breeding a fish to result in a deformity is something I wouldn't support.
