new to this so bare with.... i have 2 dwarf gouramis one orange with blue stripes and one silver/blue with very faint orange stripes. the orange one is deffo a male but the silver/blue one i think is a female........ it has a slightly smaller rounded tail and has a more spikey dorsal fin, is this a female? the orange one seems to chase the other one about all day n i thought they were peacefull fish!!!! is this why? do i need another female to keep him more calm and relieve stress off the other?

cheers, Matt.

anyone..................

went back to lfs and they said i had 2 males, although a pic i saw on the internet of a female looks identical to mine. lfs said females are smaller and grey/silver in colour but pic on internet was a silver/ blue just like mine!!!!!

my silver/ blue gourami is slightly different in shape to my other as it has a more rounded head and smaller more square rear fin, my other is more pointy in the head and has a larger fan type rear fin. is this just normal variation or does this mean i have 1 male and 1 female?

the reason i ask is because my silver/ blue gourami doesnt get much rest as the other chases it round most of the day, if it is a female i will add another but if not then i wont bother as a single female would just get bullied more by 2 males, i think......

please help! i just want my gouramis happy and more relaxed if poss.

You have a male and a female, and i'm no expert, but i've heard that 2 females to a male is bad? Because if the male then pairs up with the new female the old female would get bullied by both of them. but u deffo have a male and female.

Do you have any pictures, without seeing its basically an impossibility to say.

went to another lfs today and they had the same as males, so i assume it is a male from all the info gathered. cheers. will they always be chasing about or will they cool off afte a while?

Can you get pictures at all? The reason I ask is I do actually have a female that colour.
If you do have 2 males you will need to provide plenty of hiding places and add loads of plants to the tank in order to stop the fighting.

will try and sort out a pic for you. the tank is only 90L and has 2 x mangrove tree root ornaments and about 9 plants so cant really fit much more in without loosing all my fish amongst it all......

it was a male in the end....... i have taken him back to my lfs and now have a more relaxed tank....
