I have one dwarf gourami in a tank that I am going to be converting over to something else.
Can I put him in with my neon, glo-light, and phantom tetras, as well as a few platys and danios?
Will he be too large to put in with them? And would he pick on them?

My daughter had a male and female dwarf. He wold head butt the smaller fish such as the neons. I had to move all the fish into my tank where the gourami would be in a group of ten. He is so peaceful now. Even with neons.

Alright, thanks!
I guess I will just try it and keep an eye on how they get along.

yep. just keep an eye on them. The Dwarf might be less aggressive since he is being introduced to a new tank that the other fish are already established in. if it was the other way around i'd say just move the decorations around and give it a try.

well at the moment there is one plant, not much decor at all. I just transfered all my tetras into a 25 gal from the 15 gal they were already in, so its a new start for this tank..
and I know the dwarfs are very calm, but I thought that because he is so much bigger then the others that he may want to pick on them.

my d gouramis get on fine with my tetras ..... just depends on the individual fish i guess

he was kind of a bully, so i put him into the semi aggressive tank. I thought he'd get picked on in there but he has seems ok for the past while

I have Blue Gourami and Dwarf gourami with Cardinal tetras and they get on perfectly well together :)

I keep 3 dwarf gouramis with 40 neons and 8 rummy-noses. Theres also mollies, guppies, zebra danios etc. No probs whatsoever.

Having said that, it will depend on the size of your tank (if the gourami has plenty room to establish its own territory it should be fine), and getting some plants or something to allow the fish to hide from each other would optimise the chance of it being successful.

Hope that helps.

BTT :good:

i have a male gourami and i did have 3 neon tetras, when my femal gourami died the male 1 seamed to almost 'mother' the neons even tho they were of no relation. he would make sure they got food, even protect them when i had a bully fish. but i guess every fish varys some may be nice and some might be 'evil' but ive never heard of a problem with gouramis as they are very peacefull fish who enjoy the company of eachother.
