Well my roomie and I have decided we want to get a small tank going in our dorm room (prolly a 10g) and I was wondering if the dwarf frogs need to have the water/tank cycled just like fish? If so we may have to hold off on our plans. B)

Yes, they do need cycled water you may get away with slightly higher readings, but they still need to have the water changes, filters etc.

ok, thanks, I figured that they did, I have an extra filter laying around so that wouldnt be too much of a problem...

but... thanks that answered my Q: :D

hmm.. one more Q.... is room temperature ok for them or do they require a heater? our room is about 75 degrees all the time, if not warmer.. they like to overheat us....

Im looking for a ruff estimate on cycling a 10gallon tank... ie how long does it take? maybe a week or so?

thanks

The thing about dwarf frogs, bless them, is that they aren't the most intelligent creatures in the universe, make sure you have an escape proof tank as they like to get out, then of course dry up and die. The other thing to worry about is to make sure you have an enclosed filter (though I expect with that size tank it will be), as they seem to be attracted to open filters, go in, get caught up in the suction and drown. I learnt this the hard way   but when I looked it up, it seems to happen often. Good luck and enjoy, they are lovely little creatures. by the way they love glass worm and blood worm. Mine used to sit on a pile of frozen blood worm and guard it, they were so busy defending it, they hardly got anything to eat. Great liitle characters. :D

thanks for the info Alex, sounds like I wight just wait till I can get my big tank set up and cycled before I get my dwarf frog/s..

:D

Morning Doohic,

I have had my frog for about 13 months. You can use medicine in tank. Just be sure it is safe for invertabreas. I just had ick in my 55 g and had to medicate. Everything is fine now, including the frog. They are tough little creatures. Make sure you have a cover on your tank. They are great jumpers. Have almost lost mine a couple of times because of jumping out of net while moving him between tanks. They are cute when guarding their food. My fish try to help him eat. They attack their food. Very fun to watch. You will enjoy them.

I dont never see my eat anything I know he has to be eating what can you feed them he stays hide all the time I dont see where they are any fun at all I had two of them and one got in the filter when I was changing the water and drowned.I hardly ever see the other one do I need to bye another one or not or do they like to stay alone? If some one can give me some advice on these little things I would be greatful.

I feed my frog shrimp pellets. He attacks them as he eats. Very fun to watch. I feed him in the same spot every time. When I turn the light on in the morning he comes to the same spot for his breakfast. I have to put a few extra in for the other fish to keep them away from his. He will eat the same pellet with a fish - not bothered at all. Mine use to stay in a hermit crab shell all the time when I only had him. Then I got fish. I swear he enjoys swimming with them and having the company! :D He is very active and utilizes the entire 55 gallon tank.
