I'm thinking about getting some small Corys, I usually keep peppered Corys but would like to get something smaller to keep in my livebearers 'growing-on’ tank.

My question is what type would be best?
Which are most hardy and easily available?

Dwarfs? Pygmies? any other suggestions?

:)

Habrosus are usualy relatively easy to get hold of but you may have to ask your LFS to order them in for you. Most cories are quite hardy and I would say these are quite easy to keep as well.

Anyway, I would suggest c. hastatus which is absolutely beautiful IMO and relatively hardy. Finding them probably wouldn't be much more difficult than with c. habrosus.

Another to consider is c. pygmaeus, the pygmy cory. Ironiclay (considering you often find 'pygmy' cories available :p), it can be difficult to get hold of. However, it's very small, very hardy and easy to breed as well. If you can find some actual c. pygmaeus, I'd go for them.

c. hastatus are very pretty!

I'll have to have a chat to the LFS owner to see which types he can get hold of.

I'd love to breed some Corys too.

Yeah! as Emma says Trimar is where you'll find Habrosus.

All of them are great little fish. I have kept the c.hastatus and pygmaeus and both seem equally hardy. I would like to get more pygmaeus at some point as they are very nice.

Thanks for the help. I'm off to the LFS tomorrow and I will also look at Trimar.

 :D

LFS said that they should be able to get me some hastatus and pygmaeus. YAY!! :D

Thanks all for your input and for the info on Trimar, they've got some great stock. My friend has been looking for Endlers and they've got them too.

if you make a trip to Gloucestershire the place I work at has endler guppies, small but the males are very pretty (we have m&f).

Sorry if this sounds like advertising LoL!

It's quite a long trip from where I am (the furthest corner of Pembrokeshire), but if I find myself in the area I shall have to try to come and have a look around.

I finally got some. :- :band: :- My LFS managed to get me some Pygmaeus corydoras. :hyper: :fun:

I got eight (for only £10!), and they are all swimming in one big shoal. they are soooooooo beautiful and really tiny.

Hi Ddraig Goch :)

Congratulations on finally getting the little corys!

It's a good lfs that will go to the trouble to special order fish for their customers. :D

Oh congratulations, Ddraig Goch. They are neat active little guys. They come recommeded for tanks with eggs and fry by breeders, I understand.
