Hey guys! Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, I am just learning about cichlids. Anyhow, I have an aquarium that is around 16 to 17 gallons, it has been set up for a couple years now, and I used to keep livebearers inside. Well, now I don't have any fish inside, because I decided to try my hand at a different species of fish. Okay, so my question is, are there any types of cichlids (dwarf, obviously) I could put in there and keep them comfortably? There are no other fish in the tank, and I have some caves and stuff I could set up. It's completely live planted, with white gravel as substrate. (Yes, I know, not a very good choice...)

I understand that a 16/17 gallon is pretty tiny, especially for cichlids, but I also have two 10 gallons currently set up and established, and a 57 gallon that I'll be setting up soon. So, the 16 gallon can be just temporary if need be.

Oh, and here are the dimensions: (In case they are needed for whatever reason)
24" long, 14" tall, 12" wide.

Thanks in advance!
* Oh, and please don't get mad if this is a bad decision! I don't know a lot about cichlids, (you could call me a beginner) so I'm doing research before I make a decision. Thanks!*

A pair of Apistogramma's would be fine, if you google Apistogramma, many species will be returned as results, just make sure their temperature and PH requirements etc match those of your water parameters.

Thank you. I also have some driftwood, so if I need the ph a little lower, (It's at about 7.5 right now) I could put that in the tank. :good:

Oh yeah, and are kribs dwarf cichlids? Because I find them amazingly attractive.

Nannacara Anomala :good: nice dwarf acara not too rare good blue and gold hues :)

Macmaster's Dwarf Cichlid - Apistogramma macmasteri
Agassiz's Dwarf Cichlid - Apistogramma agassizii
Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid - Apistogramma cacatuoides
Borelli's Dwarf Cichlid - Apistogramma borelli
These are a couple of the better known ones. Tank might be a liitle tight for Kribs as they get a bit bigger than these guys, 10cm I think(?) Check out the Borelli and the Agassizii , I'm fairly sure you can get them in different colour strains, i.e. super red , opal, let us know how you get on, enjoy...... :good:

Thank you everyone! I will definitely keep you guys updated! Are all these dwarf cichlids fairly easy to breed? I would love fry, and I'm pretty sure I have the room to raise them, since I have a couple other aquariums....

Sorry for all the questions! I feel like I am starting fishkeeping as a complete beginner all over again!

Oh yeah, I also have allergies to foods such as bloodworms, so that could really be bad for them, since they won't be getting proper nutrition. :/

How did you find that one out? Trial and error? Or did you just get tested? I unfortunately had a bad reaction before I got tested.
I stay away from any frozen fish food.

I feel your pain, trust me.
