Just a great tank! I am looking forward to more pics of ???

Oh! Oh! Oh! What is the name of that lovely fairy warrior in the Trilogy with Gandolf? <<Mud for brains>>

You don't have mud for brains, you're just less of a nerd than I. Legolas was his name, and he was an elf. I've exhausted most of the Wagnerian names. I am leaning towards an elf name.
I kind of like Puck, though, Jollysue. Thanks for the complements.

llj :)

Well let us know. I do think that elfin Legolas will make a fit name for just the right fellow though.

But Puck will also be superb for the right fellow.

I'm not very Wagnerian (although the Women are imposing)--more Greek Classical and Biblical and a little Celt. I will keep looking for the fire God name. :)

It'll be a while yet, since now I have to go through the entire Silmarillion (sp) to find a suitable elf name. First, I have to find the book. The temptation is great to quit this whole search and just call him "Bubba", but that would be so beneath him.

I added some more cryptocorynes and another java fern.

llj :)

You do marvels with your planted tanks. Very lucky boys. I just want some plants  not much on major sculpting. I hope I can salvage enough to get a good planting going for the girls that Synirr is sending me.

You are so much more artistic! It is lovely to look at your creations. I am random and as is. haha

Aww Jollysue, I blush.

I found a name for him, and it wasn't from Tolkien. Shakespeare provided the name instead.

The betta's name is Donalbain, second son of King Malcom in the play MacBeth.

llj :)

Congrats on choosing a name for your betta. Also I finally get to see a full frontal shot of your tank..nice. :D

Forgive me , but Donalbain I believe is the younger son of the murdered Duncan, King of Scotland. The elder son, Malcolm, has been named heir by King Duncan, whom Macbeth murders in order to be king. Malcolm and Donalbain flee, accused by the bloody Macbeth of their father's murder. Malcolm returns in the end to become king, who then calls home the fled friends of the throne, presumably including Donalbain. (Love those clicknotes.)
You have chosen what seems to me to be Shakespeare's most perfectly constructed play with my favorite scenes as a child. I knew the witches chant by heart. "Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble, fire burn and caldron bubble."

Mind said Duncan, body typed Malcom. Just read that and :X Can't believe I made that booboo.  Have your watched the movie with Francesca Anis as Lady Macbeth? Great interpretation of the play. In the end, it takes poetic license and you see Donalbain riding towards the witches, implying the vicious cycle all over again. You know he'll kill Malcom, of course paving the way for young Fleance to return as the true king and start the Stuart (sp), thus opening a whole new can of worms. Almost named the betta Ross, for his double tail, but everybody would thing Ross Gellar from Friends, not the intriguing character from Macbeth. The movie makes him out to be a bad guy and then he flips sides. Along with King Lear, arguably Shakespeare's greatest work. Though you can't knock Julius Caesar. Not super crazy about the comedies and the mushy play about teenagers in love, but I can see why others love them. I really enjoy the histories and most of the tragedies.

Glad you like the name choice then.

llj :D

I will look for the video. So did Donalbain kill Malcolm? Well, hope your dt is more lover than bloody. You must tell me the allusions you were considering in the name choice.

Othello is intriguing too. Compare his last speech with OJ's from the Bronco chase. Try Zefferelli's interp of the Opera. I got it once by mistake and never found it again. :X

But for love it has got to be Taming of the Shrew--always interesting that it was played during Elizabeth's reign. Also love the dark comedies. But I am with you, I prefer the histories and the tragedies. But really, a great group marriage in the end or resurrection from the depths of tragedy--does she still breath?

Well in the film, Donalbain doesn't kill Malcom, but he's portrayed as kind of Richard III'ish, all hunchbacky and stuff, with a foul disposition. You just see him in the end following the same path MacBeth took when he discovered the witches. In the film, Ross is the portrayed as the third conspirator when they kill Banquo. At least I think there's three conspirators, and he is also responsible for opening the door, I think, to MacDuff's castle to kill MacDuff's family, yet he sides with MacDuff in the overthrowing of MacBeth. It's been soooo very long since I've seen the film.

I mean historically. I am assuming that there is some basis in history (especially since you mentioned the Stuarts/James), but I can't really remember what I came up with when I tried to find the place in real time.

It all makes me want to dig out my Shakespeare. But frankly my eyes get too tired too fast and start rolling backward.
