My male guppy had developed more symptoms, raised scales, a skin lesion and a raggy tail.

I'm using Melafix and Anti-internal bacteria treatment but nothing is working. He is getting worse.

Please could someone help me?

Hi Badman,

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I have been doing some research and everything I am finding, advises Maracyn 2 for 5 days. I believe the first dose is 2 tablets followed by one tablet each additional day. Also you can do one more treatment after the first. The information I am finding doesn't look good for your guppy. Sadly everything says that by the time you have noticed the symptoms of dropsy it is too late, but on the bright side I did find where the Maracyn did help some people so its worth taking the chance I would think.

Hopefully, someone with more experience will come in soon and be able to help. I have never had guppies so am not really familiar with diseases.

Good luck!

Hi Bigfish

We had 5 Dwarf Gouramies that came down with dropsy a while back, as Allie mentioned the one that we noticed it on first did not survive to the end of the treatment, and a second one also died from it, but I credit the Maracyn-Two treatment for saving the other three. They were a while recovering even after the treatment was finished, but they pulled through and are no back to their healthy selves again. :)

Good luck, got my fingers crossed for you and the little guppy.

Don.

Sorry to say but the little man died today  im really upset because he was a nice little fish. May he rest in peace in fishy heaven.

I've had dropsy in my fish on several occasions it seems. Have tried the mentioned meds and had the little guy die on me, and have done nothing before and strangely had the fish survive, but more often than not, this seems to be a terminal one for my guys. Not claiming to know much on the subject though. Some meds have made me avoid treatments all together as they don't seem to often work, but think the only way to find out more is trial and error.

I agree i tried all treatments going but nothing improved in he got worse and sadly lost him.

I did cure dropsy in a Fantail Goldfish and survived to tell the tale.

It was just so sad.

But he's not in anymore pain now and sleeping in fishy heaven.
