My fry had dropsy with the bloating and the scales and everything. So I treated them with Mardel meds for about 10 days and now they seem fine. I read that dropsy was fatal, incurable, and the fish should be euthanised. Then why did all of my fish make it? Was it something else?

dropsy is not really a disease its a condition caused by a disease. It is usually an internal bacterial infection and if not caught early will most definitely end in the death of a fish. However if treated quickly as you must have the underlying disease can be cured. HTH :)

I have also had success treating dropsy in platies and pencilfish using Terta Medica's General Tonic. Turns the water a horrible green colour and you need extra aeration but it does the trick.
