Dropsy the sickest sight

I was so devestated when I saw one of my girls had dropsy. It's the first time I have ever seen a fish up close with dropsy. My heart just sank and I felt sick in my stomach.

I just euthanized her there was just no hope for her. I did a 30% water change and added some medication to the tank. I pray my other girls dont get it.

Dropsy has got to be one of the worst diseases that a fish can get. I had some fish get dropsy when I was younger and it made me cry. Hopefully you caught it soon enough to prevent the other girls from getting it.

Dropsy grosses me out on many levels, looking at it makes my stomach turn.

I'm sorry for your lost also. Dropsy always give me the 'I-think-I'm-gonna-go-barf-now' expression. If only there was a inexpensive yet 100% effective way to fight dropsy.

Thanks everyone..It feels nice that others understand. I can't believe how fast it struck...yesterday they all looked great and then today I had the lights off for most of the day because it was a really hot day so at around 8:00 I turned the lights on to check on them and I couldn't believe my eyes.

It was really weird too because she had lost like all her color where her stomach/scales was popping out. Her eyes seem to have a bit of a haze over them too I euthanized her by using alcohol...she was gone pretty much instantly. I just feel so awful ...she was new I've only had her for about a week so thats probably why she was sick.

I just pray pray pray that none of my other girls get it. I'm worried about 2 of them though..they are spending time on the bottom and look a little fatter than normal.

Is there else I can do?? I already added medication but maybe theres something else that can kinda help prevent the other girls from getting it??

iv dealt w/ this twice. both died on their own usualy had fungus or ich to go along . i lost one of my many favorites to this dreadfull disease.he was a young fish,he was very hyper then one day a hour before a chorus concert and he was really lethargic,so i left an i came back around 9-10pm at night to my horror he was pineconed i told mom me and her cried for a long time,the next morning he was gone. my other victim(the first victim) was a mean little double tail girl..she didnt like me much. my mom watched her die (she loved that fish) the poor thing had the triple wammy death of fungus ,ich and dropsy. i didnt get to say good bye to her.
