Drilling Hole - Anyone Can Do This?

Hi,

I would like someone to drill my 4ft tank.

I am London based!

Is there anyone who can recommend someone who will provide this service in the London area?

I know hardly any shops will offer it because of the risk.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also for information my tank is a Juwel Rio 240.

Does anyone know if these can be drilled? (i.e. are/aren't they tempered glass??)

As far as i know the glass in juwel tanks is tempered so drilling isn't recomended.

Usually it is only shaped ie curved glas that is tempered, & jewel tanks can be drilled... I have had several in the past.

Drilling a tank is always going to be at your own risk, regardless of who does it for you, and even if it breaks you will have to pay for the hole.

If you are reasonably competent at diy then it is not difficult.

First up I would get in touch with Juwel direct and assertain if their tanks are actually toughened/tempered glass. Somehow I doubt it (extra cost) but you never know. I know for definate that Clearseal dont use toughened glass unless specifically ordered.
After that you will need to work out what dia of pipework your going to be using. Then you'll need a bulkhead and fittings to suit

I doubt any flat pane will be toughened glass, but a pair of polarized sunglasses should soon reveal the truth !
As for drilling, it IS a nerve racking process - but its quite an easy process as long as you are patient and take things SLOOOOOW..

Try and find a marine diyer near to you, its a common request for the marine lads.

I think Sea Bray in basildon would do this. Its not too bad to get to if you drive but i guess it depends on where abouts in london you are.
