Hi, I have a 125 litre juwel tank and have 8 black ruby barbs and was looking at the drapefin barb and they seem really nice fish. Has anyone kept these and if so what they like to keep, hard, easy and would they get on with my black ruby barbs?

Thanks

I found these to be somewhat shy, easily spooked. They certainly like well planted tanks with some cover and shade. Peacefull, no problems there. I'm wondering if the Rubies might be a little boisterous for them.

Have you kept them before? I seen a video of them on youtube and they seem really nice.

The black ruby barbs are pretty big so they might possibly be too boistrous for them:(

Yes. When they first appeared on the market in the UK, about 15 years ago, I picked 6 up, 2 males 4 females, from Wildwoods I think. They shared a heavily planted 4 foot tank with some other inoffensive Barbs, Gelius, Pentazona etc. some Rasboras and the like. Really nice, not "flashy" but elegent. They were easy enough to keep and feed, eminently likeable.

Yes. They seem completely inoffensive, and don't grow large enough to present the usual problems which size creates. They are, however, somewhat retiring, and small tetras could be a problem for them if they are of the semi aggresive types. There might have been some Black Neons in my tank, (often were), and there was never any trouble.
