saw a dragon fish @ petsmart yesterday. it was very small and was labeled 'semi-aggressive.' any idea if it's a good tankmate in a community tank? was thinking of getting him if so.

most likely that "dragon Fish" is an Arowana and it will grow to about 24 inches and probably eat most of your fish if u put it in a comunity tank. so my advice is probably not to do it. But if it is not a misslabeled arowana and u really want it i would do more research on it to find out more about it.

Was it this?

I believe that is a violet goby as someone posted above. They are often labeled as dragon fish. I think they are pretty peaceful, but might eat smaller fish if they get hungry enough, like small guppies and fish like that. They feed on ghost shrimp and black worms when they get larger, occasionally a small fish. They can get to a max of 22 inches, but I think 15 is more around to what they would grow to in an aquarium. They also have very small eyes and don't see well so make sure they get food before all of the other fish gobble it up before he can get to it. :D I also think they can live in brackish water so maybe add some aquarium salt if it won't bother your current fish.

[Edit] What size tank do you have?

if this is the fish it not only can live in brackish water, chances ar3 it NEEDS to, ask around in oddballs and brackish forum for more info.

it would have to be an arowana..

Violet gobies arent that hard to find. We havent even established that its FW yet though, could be a draggon pipefish (althought these are ultrapeaceful) or a draggon wrasse

Thats funny :fun: ... I saw a fish too at my Pets Mart labled "Dragon Fish" it was indeed like the violet Gobie posted above ... :)

A few tanks away was the "Invisable Fish" :hey: ... at least thats what I told my 4 year old .. he said "Ohhhh" as he looked into the empty tank !!! :D

I thought it was funny too until I read about the "Glass Catfish"

Good Day ...

Could've been a bichir as well. I've seen them listed as dragon fish and they're filter feeders for the most part.

Yeah but only with small fish. They don't have much of an appetite for anytthing big. Most of the ones I've seen probably would struggle with a Neon and full sized ones probably could down a Cory but nothing much bigger.
