So, I was cruising in on a pet store I haven't been in for several months, to find that it's closing down. Everything in the store (including the fish!) Is 25% off. In one tank, I saw a Dracula Pleco, for somewhere near $36.99. I thought, "Well, I haven't seen one on Tff... surely this is a good find!" I didn't pick it up though.. Should I have? I'm sure it's still there. To help describe it, it was about 3", solid black with white spots, like a gold nugget's, but slightly larger. If I should pick it up, could it (temporarily, over several omnths at least) live in a 55 gallon with a royal pleco, which is only slightly larger? Not to be rude, but I need this help soon, I'm not sure if someone else will pick it up! As always, thank so much TFF

EDIT: spelling

Could it be a vampire Plec?

Withouth a better description, I tend to go with Vampire Pleco too by the sounds of it :good:

I also have a pleco that was labeled a Dracula pleco. Probably a corruption of Vampire by various people. I must say thought, that mine is a much darker black than is shown in the linked photos, and that the white spots are more vivid and smaller than what is shown in most of the linked pictures as well.

Hmm.

Honestly, it dosen't look at all like either of those sites :X . It was much more a vivid black, with larger white spots, more evenly spread throughout it's body. But it dosen't look like L 007... could it be a color variant of it? Or would a color variant of a pleco be under a diffrent L number.. (shows how much I know about Pleco #'s  ) It seemed to have perfectly round white spots, unlike L 007, which has rectangular and triangular white marks... Wait! After some mad searching on the internet.. it is a Galaxy Pleco! Err... I have no idea about anything that has anything to do with a Galaxy Pleco :S

EDIT: Mods, I'm not sure if this is an OK site to post or not, it's got a picture of the exact catfish... then again, it's in some odd language, I don't even know if it is a forum

Not the Acanthicus adonis (Polka Dot Lyre Tail Pleco) ?

A Galaxy pleco is a Leporacanthicus galaxias L029 (Galaxy Pleco, Vampire Pleco, Tusken Pleco).

L. galaxias (L029) is distinguished from L007 (L. cf. galaxias) by a lower dorsal fin, a longer snout and smaller spots. - so these are very similar fish indeed.

Exactly - but the pic he showed is indeed of the L029 - the "galaxy pleco".

they have quite afew vampire plecs a my lfs

OK, so do you mean L029 ? or which fish ? Because there seems to be a lot of confusion with this common name.

Here's mine... any ideas?

Ah, far to many black/white spot plecs. Snowball or large white spot possibly. You have to check out the eyes to tell better.
