It must have been around 18 hours now at least that that site was down. What happened ??
Last post yesterday was 6.45 pm and it's now 12.37pm. So just a few minutes shy of 18 hours.

Still though, a friendlier page could be made if possible? like TFF Is Currently Undergoing Maintenance. Or there is a probem with the server and it will be fixed shortly. :) just an idea ?

OR even you could have a link to the chatroom or something? html link to the IRC channel? so people who need help go to the chatroom?

unfortunately when the server hiccups like that putting up alt pages is made very difficult

it's happened to my forum too, the concentration goes on fixing it rather than creating temporary pages.

sometimes access to the entire server is made impossible, meaning uploading anything is screwy too.

i meant like if there was one made and put on the server to be included in that error message on the MySql?? if you could edit the code on it to show an image? just an idea :)

It's pretty rare (touch wood) that we have outages, so not a high priority thing, in the future it may be something we add, but hopefully it won't be seen often...

The chatroom runs on the same database as the forum

The down for maintainance thign is not really possible, since as far as the hosting and the program is concerned the forum is running as it shoudl be. The error returned was just part of the program running so it had no idea there was anything wrong.

You could put a note on the index page but this forum is set up with no index page. Usualy on invision board the forum is in a folder (usualy called forum or forums or something) so it says www.domain.com/forums/

With this forum the actual forum is installed directly in httpdocs which woudl mean there is no home or index page. If it was set up with an index page a simple html redirect line would give the forum a streamlined dynamic home page (well it would just redicret index.htm to the forum and you wouldnt know the differnce) but in the event of a problem you can just overwrite index.htm with a custom error page.

Thats how I do it on my forum anyway...
