Went to PETSMART yesterday to take my 3 and 6 yr old daughters on a day out with Dad and noticed that they had a small little female that looked like she might have a double tail. The fins were round one on top seperated with a space and one on bottom, didn't know if it was a rip in the fin or a simi-true double tail, I might buy her Monday and keep her and see what she grows into--the females are only .99 each.

cool...that would be rare right??? -_- well anyway, petsamrt.....hmmm not the greatest place, but i wont bash u for it :) :shout:

$.99 each?!?! Wow! At the Petsmart here, they only sell males... $3.49, and $5.49 each!

Yup, it's possible... I recently found myself in Petsmart and mesmerized by the tank with like 65 females in it. There was a big mix in there - "regular" vt I assume, CTs and one or two DT's but you really had to look. I myself got a cute little DT girl, she was soooooo hard to resist.

For .99 why not?

Yea i go in petsmart sometimes and look at all the fish, never bought a betta from there though because I like to try to find rare stuff and usually all they have is VT males and females and occasionally they will have CT males. It probably is a DT but one way you can tell is if between the two sections of tail if there is what looks like its webbed that usually means its a doubletail.

Edit: Go to this site and concentrate on the little webbed portion in between the two tails, thats what to look for on that female

Hmm nothing like that in our local Petsmart, which area are you in ?

I've never seen a doubletail ever! although my dream is to breed a pure line of red silver dragon DTCTPK's

Not all Petsmart stores are bad. The two around me both have VERY clean tanks. The staff isn't real knowledgeable, but at least they keep the tanks sparkling clean!

And I hope you get that girly!!! If the girls were only 99 cents around here (they cost like $3.50 at Walmart) I would have a lot more of them!!!

I've seen a doubletail female at Wal*Mart, believe it or not. I'm pretty sure she had the little webbing; it wasn't fin damage. She was gone before I could come back for her, though.

I Live in O'FALLON ILLINOIS, they have a PETSMART and a PETCO which both sell VT and some fancy ones, PETCO's VT'S are usually kept pretty descent even though they are in a horrible small container--however there fancy ones are on the counter and everytime I go in there are at least 2 dead ones---seems to me if they are going to let them just set there and die they aught to just quit carrying them, they want 7.99 for the fancy ones which look pretty poor most of the time. Petsmarts fish are usually kept a little better and they do carry quite a few little females---I go in both stores about 3 times a week and just hearing the salespeople how fish can live in such little containers is crazy, one saleslady even told a buyer that the betta could only be fed every 4-5 days and be O.K.---when the lady walked off I mentioned to her she might want to reconsider feeding them at least once each day and if she wanted a betta bowl she could go to the yard sales and pick some nice aquariums or bowls up for little to nothing. She didn't buy one that day but she was very thankful that I helped her cause she was wanting to get one for her niece--I'm not an expert but as little as I know I feel real intelligent compared to most petstore imployees. Not sure if I'll be buying the female which might be a double tail, we are without a job and moneys hard to come by at the moment.

I've bought an uneven lobed female at Wal-Mart before. Granted, she was kind of... brown but I did buy her at Wal-Mart. It was only that one time in so many years however, I've never seen another.

No I agree with you, there are alot of good petstores and these are not real bad--I think the PETCO is alot worse---seems that all of the fish are always in quarintine and a few of the staff talk like they know it all but are about as stupid as a bag of rocks. Don't know if I'll buy the little lady I'm still thinking about it, don't have a job and money's not coming in for awhile and food for the kids come first but don't know.

Pfft.. Stuff the kids, BUY THE BETTA!! :D :D
