well unfortunately, i lost all but 5 of the fry from the initial spawning of stormtrooper and morwen. we had a power outage one day while i was at work, and i came home to find most of the fry dead :'( the remaining fry are about 1/4 inch long (theyre about a week and a half now), and are doing well thankfully.

i figured if i had a new spawn now they'd be close enough in age i could raise them together. i tend to feed my bettas lots of high quality food all the time, so many of my ladies are quite egg-y. i chose my yellow hm male with my orange female plakat (already established he does not like the yellow hm female), and storm and morwen as a backup. well, i decided to set up 2 breeding tanks, one for each pair. somehow both decided to spawn simultaneously. i came back from breakfast and found BOTH pairs embracing away!

the orange and yellow were in a place more conducive to photos so i have some great pics of their embrace. on the other hand, i have great pics of eggs in stormtrooper's nest. the yellow boy seemed to be eating the eggs instead of putting them into the nest like he was supposed to, so started sucking them up with a turkey baster and giving them to stormtrooper, who dutifully added them to his own nest. then i saw the yellow boy finally putting them where they belong, so i stopped moving them. looks like stormtrooper will be raising a jumbled batch of fry!

okay, once again morwen and stormtrooper decided to embrace in the back corner where i can't photograph them well. here's a couple shots of them, but not embracing:

they were however kind enough to leave eggs where i could photograph them from above!

Supersixone,

That's some great fish pornography! Incredible!

Keep us updated on the babies. That is very nice of Stormtrooper taking the extra eggs, he is not living up to his name and that is a good thing! Did they come out of the spawn alright?

 heh, I agree, beautiful Betta porn. Mandarin and Daffodil are gorgeous! Their babies will be adorable!!

Good luck with all of the fry! I'm sure they'll be absolutely beautiful... which is why I will need some in a few months :hey: LOL

Wow both pairs are fantastic you are going to be a busy busy fishkeep! lol!
The second pair are sooo gorgeous I am jealous, hehehe :*)
Best of luck this round!

Daffodil and Mandarin are Absolutely Gorgeous! Such beautiful fish, I'm sure their beebees are going to be gorgeous too. Stunning pics!

Wow, that's incredible! It must have been quite exciting to see them both spawning at the same time! :hyper:
Very, very cool. You're gonna have your work cut out for you, hehe!

i'm pretty sure they were conspiring to drive me insane ;) running back and forth between tanks to watch both pairs!

Wow!! Those are awesome pictures and BEAUTIFUL fish! Nice to see a fellow starwars dork… *cough* excuse me fan too. hehe :shifty: :D

Congratulations on the two wonderful spawns!

Great pics!

And I am still impressed at how the first male stormtrouper(?) manages to keep so many eggs in such a tiny nest!

that's only a small portion of the nest, the part that leaked out of the styrofoam cup :)

well, daffodil just doesn't seem to be a very good dad. maybe his HUGE finnage is tiring him out swimming back and forth to pick up eggs, because he's just been leaving them on the floor. i transplanted his entire nest and any eggs i could find to stormtrooper's tank. he's dutifully taking care of both spawns now.

as a side note to the thread about excessive finnage - both of these spawns are hm x pk crosses. (male hmpk to female hm in one case and male hm to female pk in the other)

the babies are hatching :) stormtrooper is doing his best to keep all the eggs and fry in the nest.

Oooo exciting exciting exciting! :hyper:

it's always hard spotting the older fry (theyre in the same tank) because there's so few of them and they like to hide in the java moss. i just saw one that is huge (relatively speaking). i'm quite sure i saw a caudal fin on him and he's definitely over 1/4 inch long. the first batch will be 2 weeks on wednesday
