Gypsy my long-haired Chihuahua got spayed today (poor baby :( ), but while she was down for the count the vet's office called me to see if I wanted to have her extra teeth pulled..... "what?" Apparently she retained some of her puppy teeth and was never planning to lose them. I gotta tell ya, I was wondering about the whole double set of fangs thing she had going on! :hyper: She had two sets of canine teeth on both her top and bottom jaw, one slightly behind the other and closer to the cheek (these I had noticed) and probably a few other extras as well. Pretty weird!
Anyway, we went ahead and had them pulled as it would be bad for trapping food and such... $5-8 a tooth depending on how hard they were to pull, Gypsy's not the only one that's hurting :X (actually, we got her some nice pain meds to take home, so she's doing better than my wallet, lol!)
She's fine and resting now

Here's a card my friend made for her

Gypsy too!!! Cici had double fangs when she was spayed! If you've ever seen the movie Blade Trinity , you'll understand why Cici with double fangs was particularly funny. One of the characters from that movie was a booty-kicking Killer Vampire Pomeranian! The vets pulled the teeth and I got the canines!

Teeny dogs often have trouble shedding the baby teeth, and often need vets to pull them off. She'll feel much better without all the extra teeth in there. Sheesh! That's pricey per tooth! I feel your pain.:X

Great card, again give her wuvs and kisses. Poor baby.

Awww bless her! How's she doing after her spay? Dharma had a nightmare recovery, but she's the complete opposite of Gypsy (huuuuuuuge). The smaller ones tend to recover faster, is she doing okay?

She's doing great today. She was too drugged yesterday to do much and she's still lethargic today, but she's up and about anyway. She looks exhausted though, poor thing. She still has another day's worth of pain meds left too, so she'll be fine. I know how it is with large dogs KathyM, our poor gold retriever looked terrible for several days after her spay :(

Considering that when a woman goes through that surgery recovery is 6-8 weeks (my friends mom had it done due to cancer) I think dogs do amazingly well. :) It's good for them to stay calm for a few days. If they are too active right off they can pop stitches, so not good.

Here's to a quick recovery!

I know, it's heartbreaking but we have to do it to keep them healthy. A labour of love *lol*. I lost my rescue Boxer Ruby to mammary cancer so spaying young is a priority to me with our dogs/cats, but it doesn't stop me worrying myself sick!

Dharma was allergic to the sutures and developed a nasty infection and a sack of fluid behind her wound that hung down  But her reaction was an extreme I suppose! Imagine 45kg dog with an elizabethan collar - not a fun fortnight I tell you! The bruises on my legs!

You know, the red eye in Gypsy's photo in the card doesn't really help matters either. She has that whole Satanic, killer dog thing going. Now couple that with double fangs and that's the stuff from which great movies are made!

KathyM -- Awww, poor Dharma!! We waited a little late to get Gypsy spayed because she is so tiny and we were worried... usually we get them done before their first heat, but Gypsy was actually in hers when the surgery was done, worst possible scenario, but the appointment had been made a couple of weeks in advance :X. Ah well, she's recovering nicely.

lljdma06 --
She has light eyes so they always go red in photos. They're almost blue actually, like a dark blue-ish brown. A strange colour indeed.
