Well, Doodle looks like he's feeling much better. This'll be the second time I saved his little fishy butt.

This time I had him in Maracyn II treatment for a dark spot he started developing on his gill flap. I think it might have been an ulcer. Poor guy was really listless. I had lowered his water too because he was really struggling to get air. He doesn't really have a full tail so it's kind of hard for him to swim if he's not feeling good. I put a big long silk plant so that it'd float on the surface and he nested in there all week.
Today I put him in clear clean water and it looks like his cheek has healed very well. I still think I'll put some Melafix in with him for a while. He's spunky as heck too! I think the brine shrimp had something to do with that. :D

Doodle's been with me for about 5 months now. He was one of the near dead bettas I brought home. I saw him at Petco and thought he was dead at first. When I picked up the cup I noticed he was gasping. Once I got him home and into some clean water spiked with bettamax, I was able to get a good look at him. He was tiny still so probably younger than most you see at the petstores. Poor guy was suffering badly from finrot too; he only had a tiny stump of tail left. His other fins didn't seem too bad, but definitely showing signs of rot.
I continued to put some Melafix in his bowl for a several weeks. It took a while but finally started seeing growth. He still doesn't have a full tail but it's getting there.

Now that he's been healed a second time, I think I'll leave him in a solo bowl with an occasional playdate (I'll scoot the other guy over every once in a while for a visit). I think being in the betta condo with the other guys might be too much stress for Doodle. I can see him trying to keep up with the other two guys in flaring games but he seems to get tired quicker. He has to work harder than the other guys to swim around I think.

I LOVE to hear stories like this.
Makes it all worth while to invest all the time and effort into making them well.
