Dont Trust Your Lfs (even The Good Ones)

If im buying a fish that i rly want that im not sure wouldsurvive or do well in my tank he gives it to me for free!!!
That sounds great for you, but It doesn't really make your lfs sound any more responsible lol, just that he sounds like a nice guy :good: .

I don't know what you are talking about with StressZyme and other similar products not working. They do work. Its a fact. I have read the research but thats usually done by the manufacturer so I did my own research. I added ammonia to empty tanks and used stress zyme on one and used BioSpira on one and then left one to mature naturally. While StressZyme is not as effective as BioSpira it is much better than nothing at all. Is it a cure all? No but it does work just not as well as BioSpira. I can't find any pet stores that even carry BioSpira in my area. Is fishless cycle the best way to go? Of course but most people aren't willing to let a tank sit with no fish in it for weeks. It would be best if they did but most people are very impatient.

Never trust anyone who wants your money. They are a buisness and there job is to make cash.

I have tried Stress Zyme (thought I was picking up Stress Coat and got the wrong thing) also and will say that it was of absolutely no help. The 2 tanks I cycled without it actually cycled faster that the one I used it on. There is too much that leads me (and others) to believe there are no beneficial bacteria in the products. Unfortunately, fishless cycling is not an exact science. You could start 3 identical tanks cycling at exactly the same time and they wouldn't finish at the same time. They would all vary some so running a single test doesn't prove or disprove that they work.

He is responsible. He just lets me have if im rly not sure somtimes which is rarely. only once he gave me. He been the manager there for over 3 years and i think hes in his 20's!

I think my LFS is getting abit fed up with me because over half the times i go there i look around (getting in the way i suppose) for around 20 mins then leave without buying anything!

Im just making a list of fish i like, new products ect then go home and research them on the net or ask members here befor going back to get them (if the fish products are sutable)

my lfs is okay. there are mainly marine guys and like 2-3 FW but the FW guys are awesome. They always know what they have and dont have and they will tell me if the fish i want will be compatible or not. sometimes though i get a little unsure because like today i went in and said that i was looking for a pair of discus. he asked me if they were going to be alone (which was good) and i said that i was putting some plecs and tetras in there. Then he asked me what kinds of tetras (another good thing) and i said black skirts and then he said that i could put neons instead but i am not because usually they get eaten. that was the only bad thing. but 98% of the time they are very good
