i have an outdoor pond that goes down pretty cold but never cold enough to freeze over in the winter would a dojo do fine in the cold i am asking because i have heard they will tolerate cold weather but how cold?
I owned 2 adult dojos but kept them in warm freshwater aquarium (at 78F) but where i bought them they were in with goldfish, therefor in cold water. So they can stand cold temps, say around 70-72F but I'm not sure about anything below......
I know of people who do keep them in their ponds all year round. However, I would only keep them in outdoor ponds in the summer months, unless the pond could heated through winter. Around 4C is the lowest I have heard of them being kept at.
k thanx alot i think i might try one just to c what happens i dont know how many degrees farenheit 4 degrees celcius is but it is pretty low so i think he will be fine
4C is roughly 40F. If the pond doesn't freeze, then the bottom will be warmer then 4C as water is densest at that temperature. I think it probable they would survive out there, but I can't say how happy they'd be.
i think that they would be happier in the pond??? u know considering their is 2000 GALLONS to swim in?? and yes i would c them all the time if u can c a one inch baby koi than u can c an 5 in dojo
thanx
ps and the point of putting one in it is just cuz it would be kewl and they might would breed also to acheive maximum size
yea some babies will get eaten but like in the wild their babes wil get eaten to but their will be several survive in the plantings in my pond so id say in my opinion that if they breed that some of the babies would live just like some of the baby koi live
