Just wondering what other people give there dogs as treats?

Ty gets

Pigs ears, Tripe, Leather chew sticks, Schmackos (spelling), bones and other things that I can't remember!

he doesnt like the pork rolls though!

i give my 2 border terriers schmackos, raw hide, pigs ears, pork strips, pig bones and bisc bones.

and they seem to take there own treats incliding: hair brushes, various airline from my tanks, old filters, bottle tops, anything you dont want them to have rearly.

yes i did say air line, they go mad for it. They just tug on the bit that goes to the pump and rip my tanks up lol :p saw one of them trying to eat the jet of air somming out of the other end once lol.

Ours get Pigs ears and various other pig bits, also most of the kinda treats you can but from winalot and pedigree chum etc (whatever is on special) and I get them rawhide strips for their teeth!

But generally they will eat anything when I am doing recall training or anything like that Cheese is the favourite. Altho Mirtha tends not to leave my side if I have that defeats the purpose of recall training!!! :D

Hmmm I know what you mean bout taking their own treats my dog has a thing for anything he's not meant to have especially the wooden spatulas for cooking I think in the last 2 mths we've had to get 5 new ones! Needless to say my dad isnt impressed! My theory is that it shouldnt be left on work surface then the dog wouldnt get it (he has a thing for taking things from the kitchen work tops)

Hi,

I don't have a dog but i used to dog sit for 2 mad dalmations and a collie x and they were obsessed with carrots. I tried them with my b/fs familys dogs and they like them too.

Emma :D

Our dogs are pretty much exclusively raw hide kinda people :p
Don't like much else.

Yep ours like carrots too and they really love melon!! Sometime partial to a wee bit of bananna generally if the dalmation see a person eating it then it must be ok and she will do her best to get some!

KONG RECIPES

BANANA RAMA: 1 fresh banana · 2 tbs wheat germ · 1 tbs plain yogurt (can use your pet's favorite flavor as well).
Kong Toy that best fits your pet's chewing temperament. In a bowl, mash up banana. Then, add wheat germ and yogurt. Mash all ingredients together and use spoon to add to Kong. Freeze for 4 hours. Makes 1 serving for Medium Kong. Double for every Kong Size that is bigger.

CHEESY DENTAL KONG DELIGHT: 3 slices of your pet's favorite cheese
Dental Kong Toy. A very simple and creative way to make any pet drool in delight. Just place the 3 slices of cheese directly onto the grooves of your pet's Dental Kong (if model has rope - make sure cheese does not get onto it). Melt in microwave for 20 to 30 seconds. Give to pet after it cools.

PHILLY STEAK: steak scraps · 1 ounce cream cheese
Appropriate Kong Toy. Place small scraps of the steak inside Kong toy. Spread cream cheese in large hole to hold scraps.

FRUIT SALAD: grapes · apple and carrot chunks · 1/4th of a banana
Appropriate Kong Toy. Place grapes, apples and carrots in Kong Toy. Mush the banana in large hole to hold fruit in place. You can include other fruits and veggies: orange slices · peach and/or nectarine chunks · celery sticks · broccoli and/or cauliflower · tomato and black olive mixture.

VEGGIE KONG OMELET: 1 egg · your choice of shredded cheese · any vegetables that your pet may like
Appropriate Kong Toy. Scramble egg and fold in vegetables. Put into Kong toy. Sprinkle some cheese over the top and microwave for about 20 seconds. Cool thoroughly before giving to dog.

MAC 'N CHEESE: Leftover macaroni and cheese · small cube of cheese
Appropriate Kong Toy Melt cheese in microwave until gooey. Add mac 'n cheese to Kong Toy. Pour heated Velveeta into Kong. Make sure it has cooled before giving to your pet. (this can also be frozen)

EGG n VEG: Bolied Egg chopped and mashed up, add chopped boiled carrots peas and any other veg your dog likes, squash it all into the kong

PEANUT BUTTER AND BUSCUITS: Digestive biscuits broken up, and peanut butter simple as that!!

ICED KONG: Plug the end of the Kong with a treat. Turn it upside down in a cup. Fill it full of chicken gravy and freeze

KONG AU GRATIN: Mix cheese pieces or cheese spread with your dogs usual dried dog food and press into the Kong. Microwave until the cheese starts to melt and bind the food together. Let it cool to a safe temperature. Use a cup to contain the Kong when in the microwave.

TANTALISERS: Cheese, Chicken skin, Bacon, Pate, Cooked lamb's liver, meaty canned cat food. - Use very sparingly and make sure this treat blocks the top hole so that none of your other ingredients fall out.

INSTANT REWARDS: Freeze-dried liver, cat treats, Chopped sausage, grated cheese. - These need to be small, flavoursome goodies. the second your dog nudges the Kong, some of these should fall out to get him hooked. If they are all dispersed immediately, its going to be a bit dull for your dog - so make sure you shake the Kong as you're filling it so some bits end up working their way into all the crevices created by the wedged biscuits.

AS YOUR DOG'S BECOME MORE EXPERIENCED WITH A KONG, YOU MAY WANT TO MAKE THEIR JOB MORE CHALLENGING - HERE'S HOW:
1. Pack stuffing tighter.
2. Wedge biscuits inside the cavity using the inside rim of the opening to secure them.
3. FREEZE IT! Very Popular! Try various combinations of canned food, gravy, noodles, rice and mashed potatoes mixed with food nuggets and freeze. KONGSICLES are a favorite with many hot dogs! Put a dab of peanut butter in the small end of the Kong to plug it. Turn it upside down in a cup. Fill it full of water, chicken broth or fruit juice and freeze. Cool doggies! Kongsicles are recommended for outdoor use.
4. CHEESE IT! Mix cheese pieces or cheese spread with food nuggets and microwave until cheese melts. Let it cool to a safe temperature. NOTE - Use a cup to contain the Kong when freezing or microwaving.

Ours get all the above & once a week a cooked hambone shank from cooked meat section in supermarket (only £1.80 and a good size)

We feed Old Mother Hubbard's Dog Biscuits and Nutro Dental Biscuits. We also give them raw marrow bones from the butcher. Sometimes we just give them some of the rescue dogs' dry kibble as a treat.

Thanks! We also put dry dog food in the kong after it has been in water then add it to peanut butter. They also sell the KONG paste and KONG shaped biscuits. We use Bacon Cheese Whiz too, LOL! We usually use it for making Chloe stop at the bottom of the Dog Walk in Agility.

Phoebe and Jasmine like rawhide sticks, Hills Science Diet pellets - it's their staple food but we give them random pellets as a treat occasionally, they're like a square inch cube.

They both love lamb ribs and sausages.

EDIT: We're having a barbeque today so they should get some yummy treats!

I see alot alot ALOT of you feed your dogs pig ears or rawhide. Just to warn you, that can be deadly for your little pooches as it can clog their intestines. It's horrible. Try Greenies or Kong products instead.
