We chastised the dog this morning for eating cat litter.....SOILED cat litter. He tends to do it all the time so we weren't overly concerned.

Then he started vomiting....about 10 times I would guess...once inside, the rest in the garage (since he is pretty much an inside dog)....he then laid there like a sad boy for an hour or so now is sleeping. I did ring the vet and they said he would be OK but to only bring him down if he got diarrhea and/or kept vomiting.

He seems OK now. The cat just walked past him and he reacted (whch he didn't do about 1/2 hour ago)....

Thats enough stress for my morning!!!

Is this clumping litter? Clumping litter tends to bring a lot more consequences than non-clumping...not trying to scare you lol. My brother's dog did this once and he turned out ok.
Hope yours recovers...hopefully that'll teach him not to eat litter.

lol...that's how dogs are. I also had to shut my brother's dog from the room. He would also eat the cat food. Got sick for a two days with the cat food and had to take him to the doctor. Yea, my brother's dog...and it was ME who took him to the vet. They just gave him some medicine and got better right away. I didn't want to try and see if he learned...lol.

There's a product called "Forbid" that works really well to discourage litter box raiding. It's a powder that you sprinkle on the cats food, once they digest it it does something to the waste to make it very unpallatable. My sheltie was a horrid, chronic litter box raider but it only took one treatment of Forbid and he quit for good. I've only seen it carried at vet clinics, if you're interested, although you may be able to find it online somewhere.

:( clumping cat litter can easily scrape up a dogs throat and cause a lot of long-term damage. You should get a litterbox in a large cardboard box with an opening on the top for the cat. You can also try putting the litterbox up high so the the dog can't reach it.

I hope your pup feels better!
