Does Such A Thing Exist?

Thanks for the suggestion MBOU, but if I were to go "fish only" I'd have a hard time rationalizing it... I might go 'Malawi' someday...

I have a 110 gallon tank, and while the plan WAS to go with a South American set-up, I might be forced to go in another direction... Malawi makes the most sense to me.  I have TONS of rock I could use already.

My LFS had a marine betta before it burnt down.. It was a supper beautiful fish thats no doubt. If i even get a marine tank that will definetly be one fish that ill keep. Its so graceful throught the water. Very shy though. It was always behind the Live rock hidding from people.

nope good ol' Wisconsin.

and yeah its pretty sad. Luckly they were in the middle of expanding to a new store which was next door. Like buildings connected. The actuall building didn't burn down but the inside was toast. I drove by and all the aquariums were still where I last seen them but they were all black with soot.

I just about cried thinking about the hundreds of fish that were boiled alive..

Yeah its pretty terrible. I'm waiting for them to reopen so I can help support the LFS again and maybe lend a helping hand or two. Its just a middle aged lady and her husband. 40's-50's maybe and they do it on the side so the store is only open Thursdays through Saturdays and sometimes Sundays if you ask nice enough. I always spent hours talking to them about fish and they are more than willing to help you out with something. They both are really nice. I'll never forget the first time I walked in. The tanks were full of algea and were very dirty. I though "man these fish deserve way better than this, maybe I am better off going to the large chain stores." But i couldn't have been more wrong. Turns out I walked in on a Wednesday night that they just happened to be open for and they do all tank cleaning on Thursdays. I came back a few days later and all the tanks were spotless and her fish were healthy. The tanks were well stocked. Not too full but still had quite the variety. Another time they had just recieved a shipment of baby angel fish and they were pretty shaken up and something had gone wrong and they were kept at a cold temp for sometime during their shipment and one guy asked to buy some. The husband walked over looked at the fish, quickly explained and said he would much rather let them recouperate for a few days before he sold any. I decided right there that I don't care if the chain store has something for $10 cheaper I'll still buy it at there. So yes its very sad that their store burnt down but the new one should be open in the next few weeks! I drive by just to peek into the door and see progress!

Oh Sputnik that's really sad :(

They sound like lovely people too!

Sputnik - oh sounds like as they are good people. We all need more lfs to have people like them.

Good luck to them

I was wondering, because an LFS around me burned up about a year or two ago.  Electrical fire.

Yeah buy remember with every end there is a new beginning, especially with the fish world!

I hope to get them a little more updated in their terms of advertising around town and would love to help them set up a website with just basic info and a few pictures to help bring in some more business even though every time I'm in there there are multiple people that come in even on a week day. But I'd love to help them expand even more, how cool would that be?!

That would be cool.

Ahhh but Eagles, whats wrong with Marine Fish Only?? You can keep all the fish that would go in a Reef Tank as well as a lot more that wouldn't be so Reef Safe!! Can still create awesome rock formations and likely use rock you already have already!!

Absolutely love these scapes!!

Or a lot of people make their own fake reef aquascapes using polystyrene and rock rubble etc and coating it.

Took ages to remember name of it, Aquaroche have stunning scapes that either then turn purple in time with coralline algae or can be painted so.

Basic fish groups there and most will coexist, you cant tell me malawis even come close to those colours and shapes and sizes :p

Mind you.. if you haven't done malwais yet, best get it out of your system ;) most marine keepers keep malawis first and get bored of them/sick of their psychotic murdering ways and move to marine anyways :p just trying to save you money in the long term here ;)
