As some of you may know I lost a platy last night while the board was down, and this one has been acting a lil strange ( mainly hanging out at the top of the tank by the heater, not swimming very much, not socializing with the other fish) this is stange mainly to a newbie like me becuase NONE of my other platies are acting simalar to this. Please look at this pic and let me know

Oh FYI the other mickey mouse that died, it basicly stopped swiming completely, wouldn't eat, and was doing this gasping thing I seprated him from the group and after 5 hours or so he went belly up??????

Anyways this one could be sick what do ya'll think

hi,
its hard to tell if this one looks ill, but from what you say it sounds odd,

yea she is still eating, and seems to swim around a bit but not nearly as much as the other fish

**************UPDATE****************

She is doing much better, I think she might have just been going through some stress ( because I added some new platies the day before) she seems to be back to her old ways and for now I feel good....whew

I'm not gonna get any fish for another month or so, make sure the cycling is down and all levels have evened out, but I did have a question.

What is a good 4-5" fish to stick into this tank, I want to get something that the kids can see a bit better and the neons are real small ( although active and colorful) and the platies are all about full grown ( again colorful) I have looked around some but my lfs told me to look at a bala shark and they get to be way to big??????? any ideas ( look at sig for whats already in there)

Glad she is better, have you seen any fry in your tank? You can't really put a large fish in there as it might prey on your tetras. As for what else you can add, maybe another species of tetra, or something like danios or rasboras? I would stay away from bala sharks as they grow to over a foot long!!!

Does it have tail rot? or is it just in the picture? I can see whitish stuff on the bottom half of the tip of the tail..

could just be the pic

I think it's just the pic, her tail is a very light yellow, and she has gotten huge over the last 3 days, but she seems to be doing really good, I think the other one was sick when I got her and it just took some days to realize what I should be looking for, I have only had the tank for a lil over a week now, and I tested my water today ph 7.0, nitrite .05, nitrate 1.0, ammonia 0 so I think the cycling is really starting to work and the fish seem much happier and active

And brittlestar thanks for the advice, I haven't seen any fry yet but a couple of them look ready to pop, I know about the bala thats what I told them I mean why would you want to do that to a 12" fish the whole tank is only 36". I wanted to get something a lil bigger but not make the fish have nowhere to swim. I'll look into those
