There are several tail types other than VT's, SpOOky. Looking through the galleries of online suppliers is a good way to get familiar with them. But beware!!! It is also very tempting, like walking through a chocolate shop or a bakery.

Well, I know there are betta clubs in the UK--might want to check IBC (INternational Betta Congress) since they do list their various chapters, then get ahold of a chapter near you--they'll be able to point you to various breeders. Breeders will often give away or sell (cheap) fish they don't intend to breed, especially if you are a new enthusiast--plus you'd met someone locally who could mentor you.
