Does Anyone Find Fake Plants Annoying.?

i think they are fine, as long as they aren`t too bright, you get some that look too healty, and its wrong lol,i bought a plant ages ago that hes pink all over it-totally unidentifiable (sp) but the fry didnt care, so it stayed as long as they needed it, but i prefer real, even tho i constantly replace them as i have no luck with them at all :(

Fake plants do absolutely nothing for a tank, either in appearance or function. A live plant has a chance of fighting off algae, no such chance with a fake. You don't have to have a fully planted tank for them to help with their own kind of filtration. As for 'bad luck' with plants, even a small amount of research would come up with something 99% of fishkeepers could grow.

What a very close minded view you have.

Fake plants give the tank a look that I like and the cover that certain fish require. They don't as stated help with algae etc, however my tank cleaning regime takes care of that.
As for 'bad luck', i disagree I had bad luck with them which has put me off them, does that mean I have to research them until I can keep them alive. No it does not, I chose to use artificial plants instead.

Rigid views like that just rub me up the wrong way. who is to say what i should or should not do.

I have to say, that even though I have tried explaining why people go with artificial plants, some on here are just not understanding why, despite being told.

If I could have real plants in my tank, I would, they do look great, however with my fish, I cannot, as the plants would be chewed up in seconds, therefore having good artificial plants instead is the next best option, and do make the tank look good IMO

I was thinking about getting real plants for my tank.
Do they help with the cycle at all?
Real plants cost around £4 - £6, but fake good looking ones cost more, i think.

Gaz, you have a fluval right?
Do you think their tanks are ok?

In the 3 months I've had it, I've never had any problems *touchwood*

Fluval tank and filter.

in my opinion they are horrible tacky things, go natural!!!!

I know you can buy fake plants that look real but they do come at a price. I just prefer the natural look myself!

I love this talk of "natural". Let's say the OP's RBP are from the Amazon; have you seen what large tracts of the Amazon are like? We are talking brown water with so much sediment that divers cannot see their hands when their arms are outstretched and with a bottom of rotting vegetation. I don't see too many tanks like that in the planted section.

What many people think of as natural (in the planted sense) is far from it and is more based on the Dutch aquarium design that became popular in the 1970s to 1980s of having large amounts of green foliage.

I don't have live plants because first and foremost I keep fish, which means I have a trickle tower wet/dry on a sump to ensure higher O2 levels and to aid gassing off any CO2. Not to mention I save a fortune only having an 18W light over a 6x2x2. Sadly, very many people cannot understand why someone would want to have a tank without plants, just like too many people can't understand having a SW tank without making it a reef.

See thats weird I have had 0% issues with Algae ... None at all.

Not weird at all. I have no algae issues in my non planted tanks, but that is because I have very low amounts of light over the tanks so it is far less likely that algae will develop. Why bother putting plants in to prevent algae when you can just cull down the lighting? As noted above, I have a single 18W T8 tube over a 6x2x2. More than enough to see the fish and not enough to allow algae to develop. Even better, it provides a darker end of the tank for more skittish fish to hang out in when feeling nervous.
