Hi all,
Last night I checked in on the fish after the lights had been out in the aquarium for a while, and the room was really quite dark. I like to sneak a peak at my nocturnal Black Ghost Knife Fish. Anyway, I was shocked when I saw a bunch of guppies apparently snoozing with their noses pointing up, and tails down. Just drifting there, about two thirds of the height of the surface. They don't seem sick or anything since then. Is this something that other people's guppies do?

i just never see my fish sleep! I was up until 4am monday night and they still didnt sleep!

my male guppy, who was dying of gill rot, did this a couple hours before he died but since your fish arent having any bad signs like that i dont really know whats going on with them. :O

They seem very happy and healthy. I'll keep an eye on them though. They looked like they were just having a nice snooze, and when they were disturbed, they swam about normally.

I think this is pretty normal. I often come in late at night and catch my guppies snoozing in various odd positions... on their sides on the gravel, balanced on their tails, floating on a plant etc. This is just how they sleep, I guess.

Sleeping on the gravel floor or resting on leaves is normal, but when they are in upright positions or on their sides, that is something to pay close attention to as fish generally don't stay in these positions very long.

When my female guppies are sleeping it seems as if their backs are "relaxed." The tail is slightly lower than the nose. It's normal for mine :good:.

Don't worry! As it was said fish rest in all sorts of positions! I'd only worry if this persists during the day.... My pink guppy likes to rest on the gravel and the blue one on top of the filter (which, by the way, is submerged! :) ) While the molly is often seem on top of the plants with big leaves!
