Hey :)

Just wondering if you guys still worry when you do a water change?
I make sure my temp and SG are up top level and then add it it to the tank but i still worry that everything's going to die because something will go wrong.

Maybe it's just in the first few months of setting up your tank i don't know :dunno:

Dan

Nope never do. Things can go wrong admittedly but as long as the whole process is as stress free as possible it shouldnt be an issue.

I admit I am a bit cavalier when doing my water changes. So dont take any advice from me

i dont change the water i just add more water every 2 weeks B)

Wolflife: the prupose of the water changes is to replace trace elements that are used up and to remove stuff like phostphates and nitrates and such. IMO not doing water changes is very bad.

i dont do anything special when i do a partial. just remove the water with a siphon(along with getting detris on the surface of the sand). mix up the new water(and make sure the SG is the same) and put it into the tank.

OK do i need to change it every month like 15% or more than that?

Are you adding fresh or salt RO to the tank when topping up ??

i add saltwater all most every week 5% only
No die fish yet

I am going to bite my Tongue :X

TOP UPS

Fresh RO Water only - as althought your water is evaporating, salt does not

WATER CHANGES

You are phsically removing Water & Salt from the tank which you must replace by adding SALTED RO WATER

:)

I dont have RO water, i buy drinking water is it OK

I think drinking water would be OK - not 100% thought

But buying an RO unit or getting RO from your LFS would work out cheaper tbh

If you're topping off with saltwater your salinity (the physiclal amount of salt in the water) is going to increase constantly as you are adding more each time

You should only top off a tank with freshwater (RO preferably) as this will help keep the total amount of salt in the tank at a certain level. When you do a water change with fresh saltwater you are not only removing any built up compounds (such as Nitrates, Phosphates, etc.) but also replenishing lost elements used up by corals & inverts (such as Iodine, Magnesium, Stontium, etc.)

If you took a closer look at your water parameters you will probably find that everything is way off, the fact you haven't lost a fish yet is sheer luck.

It could be daily, weekly, every fortnight, or every month. It depends on personal preferrence and you bioload.

I still stress when I do water changes, but thats only because my lion freaks out.
