This Tank is really coollooking, 2 gallons, I like it a lot. Also, the biggest one of these seems nice, although they recomend to keep a turtle in there!

Should I buy from Penn Plax? They reccomend to keep bettas in rediculously small spaces, and also, does anyone know if you can order online? If not I can not get this one.
I was sadly outbid on this awsome one:

So, is the bubble tank ok? It seems to be to me. I think I might buy a slightly used one one ebay.

The largest one from Pennplax would make a nice home. I don't know about the pyramid-shaped tank, though. It looks hard to clean, and I'm not sure what precisely it would do to the Betta. Does it blow bubbles? If so, then it's probably not a wise choice.

yay!! it's Suki :kana:! *this is Erica from PT*

I LOVE the Gumball tank, and the PennPlax 2gal. They're adorable, and really colorful!! I'd get the Gumball tank in a second, if it wasn't $40 :p good luck finding a perfect tank for your lucky lil Betta.

I wouldn't get the pyramid type tank, there doesn't look like there's enough surface area for a betta, since they breath from the surface.
The other ones look cool, though.

Hi Erica! Yeah, the pyramid tank was bought by someone else. I am watching an auction for the gumball tank on ebay and I might be able to get it for $20 or so! As for the Penn Plax one, it seems like I can't buy it online, and I don't have anywhere around me that sells those, although there was one of the TINY cup sized "betta" ones at my PetSmart, if I go today I will ask them if they think they will ever get in the biggest size. That seems like it would be pretty cheap, it is made out of plastic, and I also wouldn't have to pay for shipping. I like the wavey tank on the same site as the gumball bubble tank, but it is pretty expensive and I haven't seen it on ebay so far. I am getting really exited about this! I think I will end up getting a red white and blue male veil tail from petsmart in a few weeks. :)

in my opinion the second tank is too small
bettas need at least 1 gallon

The 2nd tank (the biggest size) is over one gallon (or about one gallon)...

can I just add that any tank under 5 gallons are far too small for a betta. fish should thrive not just survive. How would you like to spend your life in a cupboard? because its exactly the same for them. Also I have read in many books and been told by my fish supplier that a betta will only live half the life span it should, in a jar, vase or small tank, as to a larger tank. Often in a vase or small tank people dont put air pumps or filtration inside as it is essential for a betta to have oxygen under water as well as above. Scientific tests show bettas need both underwater air and above to survive. Iv got my betta in a 2 foot tank and he is wicked. Blasting himself from one side of the tank to the other. I did start with him in a 3 gallon bowl but he got so sad and depressed he looked awful with his fins flat and laying down all the time so I decided to put him in a 2 foot tank and within a day he changed dramatically. I dont know how people can be so cruel to use a 1 - 5 gallon bowl, you may as well be using a cup. Does anyone else agree?

I disagree entirely.

I think the optimal tank size for a Betta is 2.5 gallons to 5 gallons. And many of them should not have to deal with a filter or airstone, because the current stresses them out so much that they get sick.

I know that some Bettas are better off in filtered tanks, and bigger is better (to a point, depending on the Betta). Some Bettas also get frantic patrolling too large of a tank, and stress themselves out that way. It all comes down to the individual personality of the Betta.

I also disagree. I have my bettas in tanks ranging from 1-10G. They all act exactly the same way, they are lazy unless there is the possibility of food. I don't believe that we are cramming them into a cupboard. They have room to swim and to turn around comfortably.

I have a friend that had a betta in a 1/2G bowl in her bathroom for three years. That is about their life span from what I have been told. So I don't see how they could be living only half their life span if they are kept in smaller tanks.

Just because my tanks are not filtered does not mean they don't get a lot of oxygen in the water. I change the water very frequently, and I change 100%. They get fresh water at least once a week.

I also disagree. My two boys are in enitrely different places and tanks and both are constantly acting phsycotically happy. They are both very active, flare at me when it's feeding time, and molest the snails and ghost shrimp. :dunno: The only difference is that my Mesmer is in the 10 gal. (after a mishap involving my sister Chichiri died. :byebye: ) and Kage (I love him! He's all black and dark dark blue except red on his front whispy fins ((Dunno what to call them))) is in a split 5gal that willl soon have another boy int it (or maybe a femme). The 5 gal filter broke, but it is heavily planted and I do percent changes twice weekly. Really, it's all about how much you maintain that tank (I believe.)

I do strongly disagree with you all. 1st of all a airpump will not stress hem out unless you tank is too small for a air punp, which in that case is too small for a fish. 2nd bettas are surface dwellers so they need a larger surface not a tall vase or bowl, dont forget they do originate from streams. next is anything less that 2 gallons should not have a heater in, which a betta must have, as it is far too small for a heater and will sizzle the fish. I see these pictues of fighters in a vase or tuppleware type tank and it really doe make me sick as most of them are only just big enough for the betta to do circles in. in my and many other peoples opinion its the same as keeping a cat in a box or a dog in a cage. Just because a betta lives its full lifespan it doesnt make it right. a betta could probably live its lifespan in a breakfast cerial bowl, but this doesnt make it right. Look at the lenth of the betta then look at the lenth of the environment. then imagin yourself in an equivalent environment to your own size?could you spend ur life in that. whoever thought of betta vases should be caged themselves in one. Not forgeting the regular large water changes will stress them out much more that a mere airpump.

I don't like vases but the tanks above really do look like ideal tanks. You really don't need a heater, filter, or air pump in a tank as long as your house is warm enough and you do water changes. I have an airpump in my 10 gallon and my betta would hide and when he wasn't hiding he would go up and flare at the bubbles until he stressed himself out. He would have stress lines so I shut it off. You're telling me that it would've been ok to leave it on? The heater I do have and I also have them in my 2 gallons because my house isn't warm enough. The filter I only have in the 10 gallon because I'm planning on doing 2 water changes a week on the 2 gallons. I also had to fix the filter in the 10 gallon because it was blowing him around and was causing stress. So I think some bettas can do great in anything 2 gallons and up but it would also depend on the bettas individual personality.

air pumps can be adjusted by valves. I am looking at my 10 gallon tank now and trying to imagin it divided by 10 with the fish in, then I am looking at my breeding box and have discovered the breeding box would be bigger. Now if a breeding box is unsuitable for keeping fish in for long periods of time, why are people using environments smaller than this. I have read that from the box the breeding box came in. although he is in a 10 gallon tank due to the community with him, I would never again consider putting him in anything less than 5 gallons. looking at the pictures at thetop of this post the 1st one looks discusting, 2nd not much better, 3rd I suppose they could live with, and that pyramid thing is just as sad and the 1st 2. If you are going for a small less than 5 gallon, go for as wide and largest surface area as possible as a tall tube like vase or bowl will just be stupid as betta is a surface dweller, hence the large surface. Not forgetting how boring it would be for them.
