Do You Own Any Rescue Or Adopted Pets?

Most of my pets are rescues. There are my three cats:

Errol (grown since then), the kitten with half a tongue, knackered kidneys and a deathwish.

Then there's my dog Dharma who came from Bullmastiff Welfare:

We also have a Freecycle budgie (Phoebe):

And have had a myriad of other rescues here too, cats, rats, etc. :)

Hmm it seems that cats seem to be the most regularly saved/adopted pets here! I guess its so easy for them to go out and breed though when they aren't fixed/neutered/castrated/spayed, ends up with kittens everywhere.
ps: Everyone has lovely pets, its a shame so many got a tough tough start in life at first, but they all look very well cared for and loved now- i really enjoy looking ay everyone's pics :) .

Hiya, I got 1 cat from a dog sanctuary(poor thng was terrified) then 2 weeks later got a 4 week old kitten, far too young 2 b separated from mum, but it was either me or the water butt.... that was 5 years ago, now i've just moved into a new flat, and the last tenants have very kindly left me with 2 cats and a hamster!!
My dad just got 4 ex battery hens. They're great, such characters, but it would break your heart to see their condition when he first got them

I used to take in Guinea Pigs when they needed a home and I would still do if needs be. I living in one bed room flat with 13 piggies already but I have a shed with plenty of space at my Mother in Law (to be) house which I could take some in at.
Problem is I cant say no, I went for a job interview at a Vet's and came home with a hamster.
My fiancee is dreading if I get this job at a local pet shop because people sometimes drop unwanted animals into shops. :good:

Both my cats are from Shadowcats cat rescue, they were once feral and trapped as kittens. Neither are friendly with strangers and are pretty skittish around anything they aren't used to, but they are VERY affectionate with me and with my little dog. Mia is still getting used to the apartment (it took Diva several weeks to adjust as well,) but she is warming up slowly but surely and becoming more bold. They are sisters :)

Diva, who I got first. I fell in love with her instantly, being one of the only skittish cats at the shelter who didn't want to sit on my lap immediately. I was looking for a challenge and a cat that wasn't as likely to find a home, and she was it. She warmed up to me very quickly though, as I have a lot of experience working with skittish cats.

Mia joined us about a month ago. I always knew in the back of my mind she'd end up with me, but I'd have rather waited until I had a bigger place to adopt her. However, she was going to be transferred to a different shelter 4 hours away, and I couldn't bear the thought of being unable to visit. She is a real sweetheart as well, and I'm glad to have her :)

Synirr you have really nice cats and i think it's great of everyone here to adopt from animal shelters etc but i have alot of respect for you for taking an animal that may have been in shelters for the rest of it's life because it was so scared from it's previous experience, at least now they have a loving home and a caring owner to move on with :) :good:

when i left home i had to leave my dog there as she would not leave there lol ( she loved her home with my mum and sis lol ) but i still see and take her out more then ever tho anyhow we then looked at getting a pet for our new home so we got 2 cats they was from a home ( like the RSPCA ) brother and sis ( sooty and tiga ) tigs was white and grey and sooty was black but i realy wanted to takr sooty as i no its harder to re home them and his my lil boy :D and they love it in there new home

1 year later i was out with my car club and it looked like a RAT run out down a road so as i stop and looked it was a 6 week old kitten few people said leave it let it find its mum but i had to take it and get it looked at to make sure it was ok so the next day it went vet to get checked over and they said few more days on the streets and it would be dead so insted of that going to the RSPCA we took it in and his getting on well with the others

and all 3 of them love watching my fish 8)

I'm happy to hear of so many rescue pets! Good job, guys and gals. :good:

All of my pets (except fish) are rescues on some level. 3 dogs were strays that SOMEHOW came home with me ( ) and one was adopted from the shelter, one cat was adopted from the shelter, the other was given to me by these people who were going to put her crippled, declawed self OUTSIDE, so I got them to give her to me. The rats were all going to be live food for some snake, but instead came home with me.

The bettas could be considered rescuses- they were in terrible conditions at Wal Mart so I got them. Some don't consider that rescue, but I'm sure the fish do, but anyway!

A house full of rescused pets, I would never have it any other way! :good:

Crippled (well, has that gimpy leg that dosen't work right...) declawed ( ) cat, Menchi:

If you can't tell, I take WAY too many pictures of them!

Beautiful pets there Goldfish - but I hope you tried to find the original owners of those three dogs, after what KathyM's going through with her missing cat it goes to show that however much folks think they're helping when they take in strays, they could be depriving someone of a much loved pet.

Yes, of course I did. I ran an add in the newspaper, filed a found dog report with animal control, and called the vet offices to see if anyone has reported thier pet missing. Over a month since finding the chow, I saw an add in the paper for a lost black chow/lab mix, 45 pounds. Even though she was under that weight, I called anyway just in case (it wasn't her).

Trust me, I imagine how awful it would be to loose one of mine, and how much I would want the person who found him/her to try to find me, so I always try to find the owner. :good:

ETA, I don't like how you imply about people taking in strays. Generally speaking, I would never leave an animal on the street because it might be someone's pet. If it was my pet, I would want someone to take him/her in and try to find me, or take him/her to animal control so that I could pick him/her up.
