Do you name your fish?

We have a Fly River Turtle called Hurtle, admitedly not a fish but he/she deserves a name. But, that's not where it ends...

We used to have a lovely red Betta that I called Jack and a blue crayfish called Sushi.

I don't name all the fish and now I worry their little feelings might be hurt!!!

Anyone else name their fish and if so, do they all get names or just a select few?!

Just a select few... partly because I name the particularly personable ones, and partly because some of them look the same (such as the danios).

A few examples -

Dwarf Gourami Male - "Humperdink" - If you've seen "The Princess Bride" (one of my all-time fav movies... ), he acts just like the price. Stuck up, pushy, and thinks he owns the world!

Male Betta - "Captain Jack Sparrow" - He OWNS his tank! The cories are definitely his little crew.

Male Betta - "Gimli" - Brown, stout, strong, and attacks food with more than gusto.


I love my fishies.

Eh, I am pretty sure almost everyone on this forum names a few if not all their fishes . Heck I name all my bettas.

I name my bettas, and I named my kissing gourami. The kisser is kinda hard to miss when she is 6" long! Her name is Angel.
And the bettas are, Bubbles, Charger, Freedom, and Blue Star

my male beta is called Sparky

and my two featherfin catfish are called Sharky and George...

Yes. Just about all my fish have names. The barbs are all called Michael, though. Even my 2 glass cats have different names.

They don't all have names but the vast majority do.

I have a new 5 gallon tank with one female betta, ten ghost shrimp, nine neon tetras, 3 red eye tetras, and one mysterious fish LFS identified as a 'feeder fish'. The fighting fish has been named Lazuli, but I haven't gotten around to naming everyone else.

Well I name the fish I had the longest so...
Male guppy: Il Deng
Dark male cory: Yami
Light male cory: Ranpu
Female cory: Kouhi
Male algae eater: Isamashii
Feamle algae eater: Kiokure

I still choosing the names for the other fishes.

I only named my betta and gudgeon for their personalities

Male betta: Boss=ZHe would rule everything in his tank, foreigners would be destroyed, sad thing is, he died a month ago
Gudgeon:Mo=First two letters of his scientific name Mogurnda mogurnda
I have well over 30 fish and that's all I named, although I did nickname my serpaes the 'Stupid Six' for certain reasons

Every fish I've owned gets a name. Even the ghost shrimp I had for maybe 2 days because Fu'quan got hungry got a name.

I have named some of my fish. I stopped because I was just too lazy.
Here are the ones that are named:
Common pleco - Hurcimer
Black tetras - Bonzai and Sllor
Leopard cory - Sedona
Silver Dollar - Marilyn Manson
Tiger pleco - Jethro

And my other pets:
Papillon - Barkley
Rats - Simon and Garfunkle
Zebra finch - Fabana
