For live plants do you grow or buy for your fish? I grow mine because it would cost me much money for all the live plants I use.

I personally buy mine at first and then, if a branch is well developed and begins growing roots, I purposely trim it off and tie it down it the tank GENTLY. Then, that grows like beans with magic dust and a couple of weeks later, a brand new, BIG, plant is born

i didn't know you could grow them. how is it done?

ROFL. I'm sorry. But they are LIVE plants, silly. ;) Living things do have a tendency to grow.

Anyway...I'll be helpful. When you get live plants from the store, you do end up with more than you started with merely because...they grow. :shifty:

Buy, then if I get some offshoots, I'll snip and replant them heh.
Our plants aren't doing too well now though so we're going to have to buy more.

i buy afew that i like then wait for them to grow to the point that i can get a piece or 2 and start that in my other tanks.

About now I get a bunch of weed for the pond and put it in the pond (where else)and then I snip bits off for me bettas....but I havent got round to it yet.. :hyper:

I tend to buy plants when they are small as they are a lot cheaper. When new shoots grow or the plant spreads then I take cuttings and replant them.

I have tons of my moms plants in the house so I just use those. Its cheap and easy:)

if your buying your plants make sure to check them for clear sacks with black dots in. i didnt do this and my tank was riddled with snails. also make sure to clean them to rid them of any chemicals.

I'm just really starting to get into live plants so not it's just buying. I'd really like to get some live plants for my 30 gallon just need to get the right ones so my pleco won't eat em :p

What kind of pleco do you have? I have a MF pair of BN plecos in my 37g. They never bothered any of my red broad leaf ludwigia, hornwort, anacharis, or vals... just my crypts.

I am not sure if my live plants are what you would keep for a betta. lol but they seem to like it.
