i know what you mean, when i first started out, i was nervous about everyting... water temp; whether the thermometer was lying to me, acidity, everthing. Then i relaxed a bit, bought a decorative tree log for the tank, unfortunately the peace was the dreaded 'quiet before the storm'... as i awoke one morning to find my 7inch common plec stuck in the log, now i'll admit i was the first to laugh at this, for some reason it hadn't dawned on me what was really going on, i thought he was just staying in there for fun
and when i put my hand in to chase him away, he wouldn't move, i became panicky and lifted the log a bit, almost trying to shake him free... soon my mum came in and saw the site, she didn;t find it funny as she immediately twiged what may happen, we tried everything, we even tried pulling the fish a bit, but this was stressing him out far too much so i stopped this from continuing... horribly i had to leave for school, i didn't want to but my mum assured me she would take care of it... i found out later that she had phoned up our local vet and asked for help, the receptionist began to laugh and got her head fair bitten off by my mum, lol. she then said their was very little they could do... By this time, my mum says, the fish was begining to take serious gulps, obviously finding it hard to breath, so she realized the fish was going to die anyway so she might as well have a go a trying to cut the log off. unfortunately the log was made of resin? which was pretty difficult... my mum got our cleaner to hold it whil she took a pair of the garden secatours to it... this may seem mad, causing serious stress to the fish, but please remember that it was going to die anyway, so it was worth a try...
Success!!! Sh got the log cut and got the pleco, now named 'Lucky,' back home into the tank, at which point he shot off and attatched himself to the filter, refusing to move for days, it's been about 8 months since then and he is now 8inches and living happily, though he is very suspicious of people, understandably, lol.
