My first 2ft comunity tank. I swopped three young guppys for three young convicts with a crafty kid at school !
I realized my mistake within minutes of releasing them into the tank and had to put in makeshift divider then got another 2ft tank for them. No fish were lost though some were pretty beat up but recovered.
I found them facinating and really got into Cichlids and ended up with several breeding tanks.

MBOU; I feel for you!

When I said I have always kept my fish properly, that doesn't mean the the people around me have, but I refuse to take the blame for them! My ex was always buying stupid, tankbusting fish, even though his tank (we had one each) was only 48x15x18"; the worst, I think, was a Pseudodoras niger. Never found out what happened to that after we split up :-( Beautiful fish too :-( I had a dozen tiger barbs, a dozen neons and two red whiptail catfish in mine

My mum still has one bala shark and three clown loach in a three foot tank :shout: She hardly ever does water changes (maybe once a month), so they're probably terribly stunted. She says they 'look happy', despite what I've told her, but what can you do?

Me aged 14: "so these will be ok in my community tank, with Two Angels, Harlequin Tetras & a few golden barbs?"

Rubbish LFS: "oh yes, no problems"

In less than a month, no community (all dead), but two happy Convicts & a load of fry....,

Poor fish, poor advice :(

That made me LOL! Sorry.

Glad it made you smile ;)

Was the first lesson in "do some research first". I went back there with all the fry you know.....

Ended up with a juvenile Pearl Arrowana (2") and a juvenile Red Tail Catfish (2") living in 130L Aqua One 620T with a "but you cant get rid of them... they're a present!"

In all fairness, gorgeous fish and I managed to accidentally kill the RTC when it swam up the pipe i was siphoning the water with...out the front door... into the snow... and i didnt notice for 10 minutes

Then the tiger shovel nose and the big male motoro sp stingray and then the smaller female motoro stingray and then a third 'female' motoro stingray than turned out to be male and was probably killed by our big male :( as he died overnight.

Tilapia mariae... Vieja synspilum... snakeheads... tiger datnoides... tilapia buttikoferi.

Never ending list of fish we shouldnt have had! Not to say i didnt love every single one! Except the vieja.... just nothing to love about that species

The biggest poor decision of my ex was a whole 3cm worth of two fish (2 x 1.5cm) added to my 260L discus and angel tank. He "fell in love" with two Pygmy Puffers a neighbour had and they definately couldnt keep them in their community tank so my ex took them and put them in with my dicus and angels. I came home after 3 days to find 4 angels with no fins at all... they were just.... bodies... and my discus were savaged andall herded up right in the top corner and stressed out of their minds!

I took "the peas" and got rid of them because it was that or I euthanised them on the spot  furious didnt even cover it!

My other tank was a Roma 125 that had a pair of bristlenose, 23 vietnamese cardinal minnows and a trio of empire gudgeon, tank running at 23 deg celsius as all fish were happier in the lower temps and my ex went and put two blue rams in. It was probably really bad of me but i was so hacked off I put them in his tank with his stingray and tiger datnoides etc. Id have felt bad but the ruddy things survived and went on to bully everything that they could except the ray who they stayed out of the way of!

I bought 2 black ghost knife fish after not reading up on them properly, and put them in with two gold gouramis and two kissing gouramis, :-( after the first day I literally never sore them again!

I've only ever had goldfish and I feel so bad now. I always had 2 fish at a time and they were always kept in those tiny little bowls with a frisby type lid. They hated it that much the way they would die most the time is by jumping out! Then I decided I wanted a bigger goldfish.. He was a comet and about 4 inches long. The petshop sold me a tank with him but the tank was only about 6 inches longer than him so he didn't list long either.

Now I have 2 goldfish in a 190l tank! They are so active compared to the ones growing up. And now I'm going 'into' my first tropical tank but I just can't decide what to stock in it
