Do you ever feel like quitting?

why would you want to give up??? :( your like my idol... you bring a fishies tail back you rescue fish i mean come on you will make me sad if you want to quite!

He's gorgeous! The side fins are called pectoral fins, by the way. :) And I've NEVER seen them that large, either. He does kind of look like he has wings. I love his color...very pretty.

I probably won't ever stop rescuing bettas. In fact, I already rescued one here at home tonight. I reintroduced Cloey back into the 10G tank and fed the girls.
Watched them for 10 minutes, no problem.
Went to the kitchen to grab a diet coke, came back to Millie missing half her tail and a chunk taken out of her side and Cloey with a big smile on her face. I still have to get Nellie back in there, too! UUGH So now I'm going to have to take them all out, re-arrange (Which works out cuz I need to vacuum in there anyway) and put them all back in and watch them for a long time to make sure they don't kill each other.

And I got a 2.5 minibow and divided it for Gabriel and Petey - and I had to put so many plants and things along the divider they hardly have any room. I have a feeling that one of the 2 of them will come out of there and go into one of the tanks I now use for a hospital tank.

One good thing is that the only fish I have right now with any ailments is Charlie - hopefully he'll be back to normal soon too.

Calgon take me away!

AD - thanks.
I just read your thread about your beautiful boy.
I'm so sorry for his loss. It's very hard losing them.
:(

Why would you ever want to quit! it is so exciting, and you learn something new every day!

Betta Momma, you are doing great things. Nobody ever said having a caring soul was easy. The Bible is full of stories that tell ppl how hard it is to be a good person. So in the grand sceam of things, in the end, it will come back to you. I get frusterated and want to throw in the towel all the time ( I rescue so many things besides Bettas...(ie hampsters, ferrets) lol. Just got a new fishy last week though, post him up later.) Just think, in heaven, you will be surrounded by all if the Bettas that loved you! Now THAT'S ALOT of Bettas!!!! lol. Hang in there.

BM - just got back in town today and read your posts. **BIG HUGS** You have sure had a rough time of it. Yes, people can be heartless and cruel. There is no reason or excuse for it, they are just plain mean. :grr:

Thankfully there are others like you who have a heart and plenty of love to go around to these little critters. I know it hurts to see one like Simon that loses the fight, but you have to think about the others like Liza that needs her specially prepared food, or little Louis (my personal favorite) who needs a mom that will make sure he finds his food so he doesn't starve to death. Who would have wanted Lucky? He wouldn't have looked pretty enough for most people to even consider. AND - who would have ripped the pipes out from under the sink when he went down the drain to save him?  Sorry, I still laugh when I visualize that one.

You are the best thing that could have possibly happened to each and every one of your bettas, Simon included. You should be upset over what happened to him, anyone with feelings would be. All I can say is that jerk must be a miserable person himself if he gets enjoyment out of seeing two creatures suffer like that. He is in his own personal hell, and I for one am glad of it.

But thank goodness there are people like you out there trying to make this world a better place for these little guys/girls. I know you won't give up, it's not in you to quit. Just focus on all the good you have done and can continue to do. Don't let the fools out there get to you. Just give your guys some fishy hugs and let them do their little snakey dances for you and you'll see how much they love you and I know you'll feel better.

And congratulations on the new additions. They couldn't have found a BetterMomma.

:p

You guys are too cool.
Thanks for all the words of encouragement.

I still laugh about having to save Lucky from the drain pipe, too. I certainly didn't that day, but I do now. :) I laugh at him too, when I see that he's re-discovered his tail, and he almost breaks himself in half bending around to look at it - and he wiggles it. Like we all do when we're trying on jeans in the dressing room - look in the mirror and wiggle our butts.
.....you all DO do that, don't you??? -_-
Anyway - you can almost hear him say "damn, nice tail." when he looks and wiggles.

I realized last night that I think I am the queen of the land of misfit aquatic creatures.
I have...
a fish that is/was tail-less and went down the drainpipe
a cross-dressing fish
one that can only use one gill raker
one with abnormally ENORMOUS pectorals (he worked out at his last home, I guess)
one who needs to have gourmet meals cooked for her every night
a blind fish, and a female who is in love with him, and he doesn't even know
a fish who fell in love with a snail
...and a snail that does things just to piss me off
