looking for a filter for a 4ft tank and settled on either:

eheim eco 2236 or
eheim professional 2224

if you have owned either of these, please give me your thoughts. good points bad points and stuff on them.

I am really keen to hear "if I could have changed, I would have changed x to x" about this filter.

please remember to post which model you are talking about.

aesthetically though I do prefer the 2224... but considering it will spend most its life hidden, that don't really matter much.

just wondering - how come you haven't included any classics (2217 for your tank?) on your list? I bought a 2215 second hand and it's always been great.

dave.

the classics, whilst good in their own right don't seem to come close to either the eco or pro range which have a far better performance for the electric consumption. ltr/hour/£ (though second hand is another story) I have found through checking out these filters that the eco and pro range again excel versus the classic.

apologies for the error in where I posted this originally: am using my mobile for internet surfing right now and the dimure size coupled with a standard web page sometimes makes me miss things, such as catagories.

I bought a 2234 (Eco) and havnt looked back ! I have always used an internal filter, but decided to try a "new fangled" external for my new 4 footer... very pleased with the convernience of it, none of the faffing about inside the tank, it even cost less to run ! Cleaning is a doddle and only needed every few months (when flowrate drops) The filter pads are a ripoff, but I got some wadding from a material store for a quid - that made 20 filter pads ! (the white top pad) Mine was supplied with media, which just needs a quick rinse in old tank water, apart from the white pad which tends to get matted.

I own an Eheim Pro II 2128, an Eheim Ecco 2236, and 2 Eheim Ecco 2234. Ever since buying my first Ecco (2236), I wanted to replace the other filters on my smaller tanks. I love the Eccos, becuase of the multi purpose handle. It serves as a carrying handle, priming handle, and a shut-off.

I have ecco 2236 good filter easy to use couldnt fault it buti dont have any experience with the pro so cant compare them x

if you can afford the pro, go with that... the ecco is eheim's entry level range now.

i had a pro 2, and it was just wonderful

The 2224 is only £10 more, both come with media but the 2224 also comes with the input & ouput kits (spray bar etc.) so cost between them aint really much.

Decent feedback though so far :D thank you to all.

The Eheims I run in that model range are the 2222, 2224, & a 2234. The Ecco will clog before either of the pro's, on a more lightly stocked tank. I run them to near death in my setups. Go with the 2224 over the Ecco.

I have an Ecco 2236, and it has been faultlessly running on my 29 Gallon for nearly 2 years now! I think they are excellent! :good:

I have the eheim pro 2 2026 on my 4ft tank BRILLIENT!!!!
Only thing i would say is that the top filter pad (the white wool one ) doesnt last very long Iv'e washed mine twice & it is now past its best, been to price replacements up & you have to buy the set inc the blue one which i dont need. I have got round that by buying a large white filter wool sheet & i intend to make my own.Hope this helps. The filter its self hardly needs any cleaning.Mine has been running for 2 months now & theres no muck in the bottom layers of media. Well impressed!!!!! :good:

Iv got the Eheim Pro II 2026 , its a great filter .

you can get it delivered with media for £94.99 from Zooplus when you add stock-up coupon code, got mines from there and only took 3 days to deliver..
