Do They Normally Hide In A New Tank?

I just got a betta and he is hiding in the tank. I have 2 german rams and another fish that I dont know what it is but the betta just hides all the time. is this normal?

The short answer is...it's probably normal but it could be cause by the other fish or the tank set up. A photo and knowing what the other fish is would certainly help.

How big us your tank? Is your Betta ill? Does it look ill? Is it lethargic? Is it eating?

Betta can sulk for the first few days after they have been moved. As long as the tank is big enough for him to get away from the rams, he should settle in ok. Have you made sure there is enough plant cover, especially at the top of the tank where he can rest and take cover in?

Do you have a lot of current in your tank? I have read that bettas do not like high currents or surface agitation. When I clean do water changes in my betta's tank, I turn his filter on high to quickly snatch up any particulates. When I do that, he hides inside his skull where there is no current to be had. He really hates current. I have his filter baffled with some filter media so that the waterfall doesn't create a surface current. That could be an issue as to why your fish is hiding. My fish takes refuge from it any time he can. Just a theory.
