Do plecs shed skin

haha shed skin, iv nvr heard of that happening naturally. i did have a walmart pets employee try and convince he plecos were accually amphibians :fun: i just nobbed and smiled, he sounded so convinceing and serious :lol:

i think it might be they are going up to breathe, i think catfish breathe air not water
 
You are both wrong :p

Corys and other related catfish will dart to the surface to take a gulp of air to aid their digestion... I dont see my plecs doing it at all, and as far as i know they are not in the same group of catfish that do use this method.... If your plec is darting to the surface for air he must be having digestion problems..

If its brwon and gooey its probably mulm, yep mulm, the layer of brown crud which is fish crap/left over food/bits of dead plants and algae, its brown, squishy and revolting.

Failing that i recommend that play doh is not a tank decoration :rofl:

No fish actually sheds skin, but some may shed a slime coat, my dora did when i first got him, it was a three hour trip and it was really stressfull, so when i got him home he'd made a stack of slime coat and it got every where :sick:
