Do I Want An Aquarium?

Hi Matute :)

Welcome to the forum! :hi:

Why not have both a fishtank and a cat? If the cat is raised around tanks, it will take it all in stride and not bother the fish. Here's my cat Pandora making her rounds.

:D

You can see it clear as day Pandora is staging a 'fishnabbing' seize! Don't say I didn't warn you mwahahaahhahahahahhahahahaha  :look:

If you're serious about taking up the hobby then have a think what size tank you want,i started off small and ended up grading twice already in a year, now i want a bigger tank

Have a look on line to see what sort of tank appeals to you, then have a look on ebay or in your local paper etc, even on here in the classifieds section, you may get a bargain.

The peeps on here on fab,and will help out if you get stuck on anything :good:

By the way...not that i'd ever get rid of my cat,but watching the tank to the fish antics is definately more relaxing than a hairy cat sat on your lap, covering you with hairs and digging its claws in your legs

Go for it and get the fish! It's not really that hard or complicated and everyone on this forum is really helpful if you have a problem. I started as a complete beginner a year ago and now have 6 tanks with everything including livebearers, cichlids, plecs, goldfish. Feeding takes 10 mins daily and I do water changes at weekends.

Cats are soothing petting a happy cat can calm your nerves and lower your blood pressure. Personaly I a good cat can bring you lots of jo. fish can bring joy in a differant way. A fish tank can also be stressful.

A cat can be your buddy, fish are more of a hobby.

Get a little tank see how you like it. A 10 gal would be ok a 20 gal better.

fish keeping is not very complicated, its more technical that taking care of a cat or dog ( i have 2 dogs, 2 lovebirds and my guppys) but they provide great enjoyment.

im a newbie, but ive had great success with the marineland eclipse 3 and eclipse 12 systems, in my case, because they are acrylic i dont need a water heater the temp actually stays in the 78-80f range, they are extremely quiet, which is important to me since both tanks are in my room. and they are easy to set up, i also really like the bio wheel, since it allows my to change the filter with out destroying my bacteria colony(i only change my filters every 3 months or so and i clean them every 2 weeks in tank water)

like snowfalce said, get a 10 gallon or a 20 gallon, more water means more buffer for problems, also dont over stock the aquarium lots of problems from this.

fish are awesome, they are very relaxing and entertaining to watch specially when they are happy, plants int ehaquarium are another great joyt for me, i keep orchids and a small garden, so i wanted plants in the aquarium

With people bringing up cats.... Everyone is reminding me how they're my favourite animals. I want a cat...

And likewise, viewing a fish tank for 30 minutes a day has been clinically shown to dramatically reduce anxitey. Ownership of pretty much any pet has been shown to have extremely beneficial effects on mental and physical health. Its not just limited to 'interactive' pets.

reasons not to get a cat...

A domestic cat sleeps for upto 14 hours a day.

The majority of cats do not have any eyelashes.

In the 1800's cats were used to deliver mail. In 1879, in Belgium 37 cats were used to deliver mail to villages, however they found that the cats were not disciplined enough to do this.

A fall of 30 feet can be survived my most cats.

A cat's jaws cannot move sideways.

the above proves to me how rubbish cats are.

And watching how peaceful they are is relaxing

And? The majority of fish don't have any legs.

When fish can deliver mail I will accept this point.

A fall of 30 feet can be survived my most cats.
I would see that as fairly impressive actually.

A cat's jaws cannot move sideways.
Do they need to?

As for dogs... I thought you'd be able to train them better than that. They're supposed to tear pieces off to eat so they can share the cat with the rest of the pack.

I have to agree with inchworm and chrisbassist.
Why not have a cat and a tank? It is relaxing to watch the tank, and so it is to watch a sleeping cat. But nothing is more relaxing than watching your tank with a purring cat on your knees! :fun:
And my cats HAVE eyelashes, whereas my shrimps don´t. (And why does that matter anyway? B-) )
Whatever you choose, it will be the right choice.
