Hi all, As some of you know I have a TL550 with the weirs in the back which houses my skimmer, heater, LR rubble and 3 types of filter media.
All of this is under flow from my 1800lph pump in the last weir.

When I installed the pump, I had to modify it slightly to get it in the weir [cut the flappy plastic things off the side lol]

So as a result, it vibrates against the side of the weir which of a daytime, the noise don't bother me [as i'm at work lol]
but of a night, the noise goes right through me.

I've tried allsorts to reduce/stop the noise but all have failed [if anyone has any ideas, please let me know]

Could I turn the pump off for long periods of time ie say from 3pm - midnight so I can have some piece and quiet.

Personally, I think i would be ok as my skimmer would still be running and have plenty of flow in the tank to keep the rock alive.
Only thing that might struggle is the lr rubble as the flow would be virtually non-existant but I'm thinking of removing it tbh as there is plenty in the tank with plenty of flow around it.

Why not try housing it in sponge? Or hang it with string from the inside of the cabinet. This way you would only get the hum...

I dont know about turning it off so i cant help there :(

Sponge sounds good if it was regulary cleaned or how about rubber?

Sometimes with them it's just a case of finding the sweet spot but I wouldn't turn it off for extended periods of time.

I've wiggled it, waggled, woggled it, weggled it and still can't get it quieter.
I did actually remove it and had it running in a bucket of plain RO and it's as quiet as a mouse so I think its a case of it er.......touching the sides! lol [Another inuendo by me!]

haha :) well im full of daft little ideas like that :) i read it somewhere and i tried it with one of my pumps and it worked a treat. Still made the Hum but that cat be avoided, but it didnt vibrate through the house :p

Let us know how you get on. I bet your rummaging around for string now :good:
