Do I Really Need A Skimmer

RO unit now...hmmm, had a quick look these range from £10 to hundreds.

I think I need a BIG BOOK

What type of unit would I need for my tank?

Fish...what are they?????

Do they sell sea yet???

I have no room in the cabinet for RO unit and Skimmer!

My local fish store sells RO water £2 for 20 litres i think?

A couple of buckets with lids and thats it for me, not messing around wiith RO units.

The MC500 is a great internal skimmer.

The RO unit dosent go in your cabinet. I've got mine under the kitchen sink.

IIRC mine was around £75

I have a water softner under my sink...no room!

The RO unit doesn't need to be attached to the tank in anyway??

Do you just run tap water through it and it gives you RO the other end??

Sorry if I am being REALLY DIM

try our sponsors osmotics for RO unit's, you get 10% off if your a TFF member.

you can just buy it from the LFS, I worked out the cost once for an average 30g tank doing 1/3rd water changes weekly plus a little for top off, it would take about 7 months for the cost of RO from the shop to equal that of just buying a basic RO unit for £50. So if your looking at marine's as a long term proposition (which every should really cos you can't rush it) then it's worth while to buy one.

we just store ours in a cupboard then set it up in the kitchen when we want to run some off, no hassle really. :)

It needs to be connected to a mains water pipe (they normaly come with a clamp type connection thats REALLY easy to install) with a 1/4 inch flexable plastic pipe. The mains water pressure will push water through the RO unit, you have two pipes coming out of the RO unit, one is waste water, the other is RO water.

My advice is this: The Conscientious Marine Aquarist: A Commonsense Handbook for Successful Saltwater Hobbyists by Robert M. Fenner

Buy it, read it, you won't be sorry! :)

Some great advice here. I'll agree that the Deltec and the TMC skimmers are the best buys in the UK :)
