I have currently got a Opaline gourami in my tank with many tetra .
but i want to see if its possible for me to have ram cichlid in my tank
as well as my gourami.

bump

from what ive experienced gourami and dwarf cichlids such as microgeophagus sp can cohabitate fine with gouramis.
gouramis like the upper levels of the tank whereas dwarf cichlids are only aggresive when breeding and like to deffend their territory, and this is almost never the upper section of a tank. i cant see any reason why they wouldndnt get on providing your tank is big enough?
rams are considered comunit safe

i have got a juwel rio 180
so i have more than enough space..
plus when they are in breeding condition i can just move them into a breeding tank..
my tank has alot of caves and plants for the fish to have there own territory..

one thing do you think my small loach will get on..
since it does not have a problem with my gouramis but apparently should be terroritorial but isnt.

from what ive read on the internet over the years although they can be territorial they make ideal cichlid tankmates. rams are comunity fish, but they are still cichlids so they can handle the aggression. and if all else fails like you said you have a rio 180 there shouldnt be any territory issues as you have alot of space

ok on friday iam going to ultimate aquatics to buy my fish. i should have expert advice from them since they are the best fish shop in the uk for many years running:)..

glad i could help fifefish, post some pics up when you get them =)

When the Rams are breeding they can be aggressive.

Mate of mines German Blue Ram killed almost all the fish in his tank. that was only 10 - 15 fish and they were tetras and sword tails and mollies, however I'm not sure how aggressive they would be to gouramis as I keep my ram in a seperate tank

Hi

My gouramis spawned nearly the same time when rams there was no problem between what so ever

I recently have 3 pearl gouramis with a pair of bolivian rams right now and all I can say is don't worry. They don't even fight or do anything to eachother. Pretty much what I'm saying is there totally fine together.

I have dwarf gouramis and rams and they get along fine. The gouramis stay at the top in the floating plants and the rams chill at the bottom of the tank.

Thats probably the reason why the ram killed the tetras as they are also bottom tank dwellers. I didn't have a problem with the Gouramis but you never know....Each fish is different and some can be jerks!

I think my ram is just a bully lol
