Do Garden Centres Sell Aquarium Safe Wood?

Hi :D

im looking for some big pieces of wood and my lfs's dont sell big pieces of wood just small pieces

do you reckon i can get some big pieces from a garden centre? i have to ask first because i cant drive and would need to get a lift :D

If they have an aquatics department then perhaps.

Why dont you call them first and find out :)
 
It can't be wood thats been above ground generally, as it will leach out all sorts of things you don't want in your tank. Even if they said it was safe I would test it in a bucket too.... Theres some good cheap aquarium safe wood in the classified section and various websites. Do you not think that'd be better? ;)
 
i work in quite a large garden center and we definitely dont do anything specifically for that but might be able to get something from one of our suppliers, how large you looking for?

a couple of pieces about 7-9 inches wide and 10-13 inches across with a few branches :)

ill keep a eye out in the classifieds and ebay thanks PDsimon :) problem is postage i sexpensive even for small bits! lol

and good idea dipsydoodle there is a garden centre which has a tropical section ill give them a ring :)

One word for you Ashley - REDMOOR

Have a look, quite often it can used in retile tanks too, so look in the reptile section ;) It's fantastic stuff. The link to my journal in my sig has a picture posted of my Redmoor wood i found last week.

I have to agree with Verminator James here. Redmoor wood is really nice and would compliment any tank. It also comes in some wierd and wonderful shapes. :good:

verminator you help me again! your turning into a bit of a guardian angel the last 3 or 4 topics i posted you helped with lol

i am certainly going to look out for this stuff the bits in your tank look great!

now to start searching :D
