Do I need an airstone?

When is the ideal time to give 'em air?

Errm........still only a newbie myself.........

......but I wouldn't really keep them in an unaerated tank......

......they won't use a lot ..... but they will use some...... :)

The more aerated the tank is the better....little fry grow when there is more available oxygen...

As an aside, they don't get their oxygen from the bubbles...what the bubbles do is create rippling at the surface of the tank which causes more oxygen to dissolve into the tank from the environment

In other words, use either sponge filter or power filter - they create enough surface disturbances to create gas exchanges.

Sponge filters cuase a good amount of water disturbance. So you would really not need more. Most fry don't like alot of water movement.

Only a personal preference - I use mainy Aqua Clear Mini in all of my fry tanks. I like them because they do mechanical filtering alot better than sponge filters while still do as good job in bio filtering. I can also control the flow rate which is also nice.

Since species such as bristlenose fries actually like strong current so I go full blast on those tanks.... ;)

Also, cycling is much easier since all I need to do is to transfer one of the sponge media from an existing tank to a new one. When I don't need to operate a tank, I just run the spare AC Mini on one of the larger tanks until I populate smaller tank with other fishes.

Having said that, I'm sure sponge filters would work well as well...

i always thought that the aqua clear mini sucked up the fry as i kno people that have them and they have sucked up tehre fry

Depending on the size of the fries, I use the nets on the intake. Now I use those nets that are designed for windows - they seem to work great and they don't get blocked easily by the food remains etc...

I currently have platy, P Acei and Bristlenose fry tanks - they are all driven by Aqua Clears. (except for Platy tank which also has sponge filters).

my gup has been pregnat for a month now, i now she is pregnat because she is big and has a gravid spot. why hasent she poped yet  she is in a breeding net,is that the problem? is there something wrong :-(
