Do Fish Recognize Their Owners?

lol, yes quite possibly
and he can spell his name too.. jAmbo

he says thanx for the complements (( no i dont talk to plants- im a few days off that yet ))

shelagh xxxx

interesting, i've never owned anything but bettas before, but wanted to go the large cichlid route this time around, and they seem alot more interactive than my betta. although my betta always swims up to the front and just stares at me when i look in the tank...

I think to some extent but not much more then food ... If I come in from work the Piranha swims to the closest he can to me. When the girlfriend comes over he immediately goes to the plants and hides ... The minute she is gone he returns to the closest he can be ...

I just think he hopes I will feed him.

Recognise you as an individual? - doubt it. Recognise you as a source of food? - ABSOLUTELY. It certainly blows the myth of Goldfish having a three second memory out of the water (if you'll pardon the expression).

Well my brother-in-law is away and none of his fish will eat whilst i am trying to feed them, except the ultra greedy jaguar cichlid , I'm not saying they recognise faces, but maybe they recognise a shape or they way in which their usual feeder people actually feed them. Just my experience :)

I know they learn to associate people with food. My cichlids come to the top of the water and appear to stare at me when I approach the tank.

dont they. malawis are awful for it lol. mines follow when i walk past the tank, keeping them away is hard lol

I have found this too, i've kept coldwater, tropical and now cichlids and i've never seen any species so greedy than those i've got now in my cichlid tank lol.

If i pop my hand inside the tank i have to go slow as they think it's food time!
