i have music playing almost constantly plus i often play guitar but i never have the music or guitar too loud coz i'm not sure if its good for the fishys
if its not gud for them would soundproofing the sides and back of the tank help :unsure:

depends how good you are..seriously though, if theres a lot of base then thats not good and they can "hear " whats vibrated through the water. see if the tank vibrates a lot, and dont have speakers too close.

ok so it should be good if the bass is low? the closest speaker is not too close to the tank um about just under a meter away, aw i really liked the bass lol um i have egg cartons to use for soundproofing would it work on the tank?? i cant feel the bass vibrations on the drawers my fishtank is on when the bass is up

To really bring it back on topic;

Many years ago I played guitar in a metal band. It was as loud as you would expect a bunch of guys who loved high wattage equipment to be. We practiced at the drummer's house, above where we practiced he bred oscars. Breeding fish are generally considered to be happy fish, unless his fish were into loud heavy metal music.

A buddy of mine deals with imports, 24 hours from the Amazon to his tanks. He lives a couple of blocks from a major airport, right under a flight path. You have to stop talking for several seconds when a commercial air liner flies over. They blow the trees around as they pass, you can feel a nice strong breeze after they go by, that close. Many tanks in his garage, thousands of neons at a time, among other rather sensitive fish. The survivability rate is amazingly good, the shops love him.

Fish get acclimated to sound just like any other animal, dogs & cats in the city get used to the noise, I've worked in several shops with loud equipment where they had a shop dog. ATM it's a Siberian Husky that sleeps a few feet away from a large hydraulic paper cutter.

How many watts are you pushing? Guitarist with a pair of 50w Marshall heads run into a pair of 4x12 bottoms, 300w bass head pushing a 4x15 bottom, double bass drum kit. Oscars bred above this twice weekly mayhem.

I'm not sure if they mind it or not. How do they react to it?

Fish hear vibrations through their lateral line so any loud noise they will be able to hear. (that is why tapping on the glass scares fish)

Hmm load noises do stress fish out, how much they'd get used to over time i don't know, but personally if i were you i would either move the fishes tank to a quieter room or play your music in another room. I don't think it would be possible to soundproof the tank, as to soundproof the tank effectively you would need to cover it up completely and this may cause the tanks lighting to overheat (especially if you covered the hood up).
