I don’t know if it’s just me but I think my fish Genuinely like Dub-plate and Rocksteady they seem more active when I’ve got it on in the background

Mine know when I am playing music.....partly due to a speaker being beside the aquariums in the lounge. One or two do tend to give the speaker the evil eye....but generally they are not bothered by it unless its quite loud....then its evil eye at the speaker and daggers at me :/

I do have some telly addicts though, the telly tends to entertain the hooligans more than my choice in music :D

I think mine love a little bit of really low Frequency drawn out Bass obvs not too loud!

but just enough to be felt in the currents

My TV and Sorround Sound set up are at opposite ends of the room to the tank the tank has its own alcove so no view of the tv for them

My fish are big fans of classic rock.

It's a prerequisite for them to be in my tanks. ;)

Fish have incredibly sensitive hearing, much more acute than humans. Their ears are part of this, but the lateral line by which they detect vibrations is largely responsible. When my neighbour across the street shuts their door, the fish in my tank jump. It is said that fish in the aquarium can hear the water running through the pipes in the walls of the house.

As far as the type of music, this is more important than many realize. One reason why fish tanks are not good in rooms with TVs or music systems. Light (from the TV) also plays into this. I've no idea if the fish can hear different "tunes" but they can certainly hear noise and see flashing light and these are stressful.

I remember a National Geographic show on plants' response to music. They were able to prove that the plants were agitated by all rock music, but they were not agitated by quiet classical music. The plants also reacted to the thoughts of a person standing in front of the plant. It was quite remarkable. We still cannot adequately fathom the incredible wonder of life.

They connected an instrument that detects internal wavelengths to the leaves of a plant, something like a lie detector. When the person looked at the plant and though positive things, like cleaning the leaves, watering, etc, the needle response was minimal. When the person thought about cutting off the leaves to kill the plant, the needle went ballistic. It was tested several times with different plants and different people.

I know dogs are animals, and they can detect what we are thinking even without any words. Plants are not dogs, but we did all descend from the same source of life (cyanobacteria) and the DNA does connect us.
