Do fish have a very short memory?

You all are so lucky... my fish are so dumb.

1) Everytime I go to the tank and they come rushing up... gah they forget I just fed them not 20 min ago!!!
2) my ma's goldfish taste test their poo as it falls to the floor 6-7 times... they never remember that it is a poo.

Short term indeed.

My betta's got a great memory. I think most hunters have to remember where their food is. Most prey have to remember where the hunters are ;)

Now THAT'S a powerful argument! My fish do the same thing: "Hey, bloodworm! Nope, turd. Hey, bloodworm! Nope, turd. Hey, bloodworm! Nope, turd." Over and over and over.

Well my fish are smart because ... well ... um ...I sayed so. My red finned shark actualy eats the puffer poo.

THAT is something you'll never see a betta do  .I've noticed my fronts don't do it either  I'm immediately turned off by a fish when I see it suck in and chew a huge turd
